German hybrid supercar to challenge Lexus LF-A in 24hr race
Next month’s Nurburgring 24 hour endurance challenge is shaping up to be one of the most exciting events on this year’s racing calendar with three new important models confirmed for the race.

Lexus has already confirmed a preproduction race-spec version of its upcoming LF-A supercar will be competing this year and Volkswagen has announced that a specially tuned 300hp version of its new Scirocco coupe will also turn up on race day.

At the other end of the spectrum, in the supercar arena, will be a Gumpert Apollo (pictured) race car complete with a hybrid powertrain.

Nissan are #1 at ugly cars.

Even if the Lexus had no radiator, it'll still be more reliable than the Germans with a huge radiator sticking out the front side and top.

kraut_master2,
If he said the sky was blue would you not believe him? Just asking....making blanket statements like that makes your opinion suspect, not because of your political beliefs, more power to ya, but because of your refusal to use your own logic instead of outright disregarding others...

(I am not the biggest Bush fan, this comment just stuck out to me)...

Anyway,
Looks to be a fun race. I would like to see what happens.

Jeeka,

I don't know how long you've been on this site but stick around and you'll soon learn that EL34 and rational thought do not go together. Agreed, should be a great race.

Boring Motor Werks, Audi #1 at making ugly cars.

Realistically, those who poke fun at the Germans are envious. Before the mass marketing within the United States happened who gave notice to the brand? They were just over-priced Toyotas and in some minds they still are. But to keep forth with this "Oh Toyota's are more reliable than Germans". It may not always be the case.

A client of mine is a president for one of the auto groups here in my city. They have received a number of problems with their models.

You Toyota fan boys can really use the "reliability" line so much before it bites you in the ass. Before you deboost. I own a Lexus too =)

i dont see the hybrid powertrain really being useful here.

sure, at the beginning with full charged batteries, he might bet the beneficial torque, but its a 24 hour race. those quick speeds and quick braking wont regenerate that much energy to the batteries

the FULL potential of hybrid racers, impinges on the use of supercapacitors.

toyota demonstrated its advantage last year in a race winning hybrid Supra.

whether or not the germans can match toyota in this whole new arena will be demonstrated at the race.

It's a test, so they will be able to develop the technology further and implement in a variety of vehicles.

if the damn car is producing 800hp, how much of that is from the hybrid system? I'm sure not much, so what's the purpose of it?

I think there are like 8-10 credible posters on this site and the rest are just idiots imitating fanboys to make another side look stupid.

I mean, there are Japanese car fans who pretends to be a german car fan, just to make german car fans look dumb, and the same could be said for the opposite...

This site is really going down the drains...

All this banter and everyone is so busy slagging crap, that nobody acknowledges that the Gumpert is an English car, the only thing German about it is it's Audi motor.

Indeed this site is not going, but has long gone down the shitter.
