BTW, it was a Japan GTI, not a Rabbit

Yes, the Rabbit isn't available with DSG.

Not exactly, in Europe you can get the DSG in the Golf [Rabbit] with other engines. But it is true you can't get a DSG on the American Rabbit.

Audi/VW should have DSGS [S-tronic in Audi speak] on all of its models within a couple of years.

Will they replace the Tiptronics?

DSG is available on American GTI's (I test drove one). DSG's have made manual transmissions obsolete. I own an A3 S Line with DSG and it is pretty incredible. For the record, it is the first car I have ever owned without a manual (except for a Dodge van in 1978). After driving this car for about 7000 miles I can't ever see going back to a completely manual transmission.

I own a 2.0T DSG as my winter beater... it's just unbelievable. I enjoy driving it as much as my S4, but in a different sense. It really does make a manual obsolete.

I still prefer manual trans........... More fun

I thing the reason most people choose paddle shifters in their sport cars is simply because THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO DRIVR A MANUAL TRANS. looks like you Americans are not good in that department.

If u r into cars, learn to drive a manual trans. it's loads of fun to drive a manual trans Porsche for example.

The DSG is the only manual transmission in the world that's quicker than its manual equivalent. It truly is more exhilirating.

I have a feeling you've never tried one on.

It's the only *automatic* transmission...

001, you NEED to add an edit feature!!!

But, the DSG lets you do everything better. F1 uses an automated manual transmission because it is quicker.

This is what i mean about AUDI and VW, its very confusing and you people think i am a hater. The relationship has become too complicted to a point where i still maitain that VW's have become so good that i dont see The need for some AUDI models IMHO.

If you want to take your car to a racing track and burn your tires….get a DSG if a 0.1 or 0.3 seconds makes a difference to you.

If you want to have fun with your car, get a manual trans (and you will still have a very very fast and responsive car)

DSG (and F1 systems in Ferraris) were made for those who want to believe they are F1 drivers. I’m sure that 95% of people with paddle shifters in their cars will never take their cars on the track. If you are not a professional racer and fractions of a second are not really important then why sacrifice the joy of the ride??? Get a stick shift!
