H4 for 2009: A Smaller Hummer on the Way?
Hummer fans have been speculating on it since early this year, now Automotive News reports GM is considering a still-smaller Hummer model for the 2009 model year. The as-yet-platformless model (get Panhard on the horn, stat!) would be the size of the Jeep Wrangler and likely be dubbed H4. The likely next target of hummerhumpers everywhere, the H4 would challenge Jeep's gazillion-year dominance of the small, squarish off-roader segment. AN also bids us to expect a V8-powered H3 for 2007 and a GMT-900 platform H2 by 2010.

Obvious photochop but since the H1 is out this is a good idea. If it can be as capable or more capable then the Wrangler it will be a hit.

ford might be releasing a new bronco, to compete in this segment, also in 2009.

Why would they even make a smaller HUMMER. HUMMER is known to be big and bulky. I found the H3 to be a tad too small already. They stopped making the H1 so basically they only have the H2 as close to a REAL hummer as possible.

I think, if the news was true, the new H4 would be an interesting alternative choice to the Jeep's Wrangler. Wrangler has been the sole runner for America’s own small off-road vehicle. If they package it with interesting power-plant (like uhmm diesel engine), I believe it will sell like a pop-corn in theatres.
Is it just me, or the front face is too much resemblance to the Toyota’s new FJ?

Jovi,

I agree with you. And in 2013, the Hummer H7 will be the size of one of those European Smart Cars.

While you think this is a stupid idea, Hummers were made to be off-road, they need a cheap model, and the wrangler is the only choice, and it is also a good one. Its the one company that could logically create a competitive vehicle in this segment.

That does make sense. But Hummer has the reputation of being the biggest vehicles on the road. GM should make a new model in one of their other companies (like Chevy or GMC) to compete with Jeep.

No doubt that the Hummer name sells. I can't believe how many I see in Florida of all places. I was hoping that Toyota would chop (jeep style) that new FJ Cruiser to compete with Jeep. This H4 could look OK...but the reliability will be crap as usual.

This actually doesn't look that bad... if only Gm does it right. Here's what they need to do:
1. Dump the H3. It's nothing but crap anyway.
2. As much as I hate to say it, H2 has to stay. (GM needs it to fund this new thing.)
3. Forget the I-5, or any thoughts of a 4 cyl. Use at least the 4.2 I-6.
4. NO PLASTIC!!!!!
5. Maybe a 5.3 option?
6. Manual trans plz?!?

Do these things and it might do well. Who knows. This pic shows a better idea than the H3, anyway. BTW what exactly WAS the point of the H3?
