I think Infinity took the easy way with the G37. They didn't take any risks, but why would they on such a winning formula? I think the G37 looks less stately then the G37, but other than performance, what else does it have? It doesn't excel in particular department, and Car and Driver even says it's less fun to drive than the G35.

I just don't understand what the argument is. BMW is faster, better designed, available in convertible, more luxurious, and with the exception of the navigation system, an overall better instrument panel.

The coupe is one of the sexiest cars on the market. The chrome lip on the trunk of the sedan is kind of annoying though.

Yeah yeah we all know the G37 looks better on paper, but so far the reviews have said the Bimmer manages to be more fun to drive than the Infiniti.

Please define "beaten". Are you measuring sales? Profit? Customer satisfaction? Track performance? Some formula of objectively measurable attributes? Until we know what you're comparing, then your assessment is simply a subjective opinion -- as is everyone's here -- and therefore not worthy of intense debate.

In the automotive fashion game, a car cannot "beat" another one. One may be more popular than another, but two fine vehicles sitting side-by-side on the price/capability curve don't strike me as being winners and losers. Both are winners, both have positive and negative attributes according to my taste. Your priorities may differ.

I'll take the Audi S5, thanks.

This G37 is a really beautiful car. People have their choices and i see that many bloggers like the german brands more, but, for me i want to have something different and rather discreet. BMW is great, but i think that there are just too many of them. And also the styling of the G37 seems very pure, simple, yet unbelievably beautiful to look at. You can just take a look at it you may think that you are looking at a sculptured piece of art, not something as mundane as a machine used for transport. And also the initial tests suggest that the G37 seems to have caught up with the BMW 3 coupe. Definitely hands down I'll pick the G37 because of its great performance, but mostly because of that gracious, swoopy, and that ultra sexy look. This truly looks eye catching.

Since nearly the beginning of time (seems like) BMW has been challenged by nearly every luxury automaker to produce a car with better handling characteristics. The fact that Infiniti has been noted on several occasion as being able to at least hold a candle next to perhaps the best-handling BMW in the line-up is at least commendable.

whichever one is better, you have to give credit to Infiniti. The BMW 3 series is in it's ??? generation already while Infiniti's G(not counting Nissan's pre-Ghosn days) is only in it's 2nd generation. Even if one says that the Infiniti is this close to BMW in only it's second generation, that's quite an accomplishment. But according to the YouTube video with Agent 001, the new G37 bests the BMW 335i in some areas. I haven't sat in the new G37 yet, but I will say the BMW still probably has a higher quality and more refined interior at this time. But for about $8,000 more in price, what can one expect? My Infiniti dealership is having a small party for the G37 intro in August, so I will have a chance to sit inside it and make a final judgment then.
My guess is the G37 and 335i comparison will be similar to the M45/550i comparison. The Infiniti will better the BMW is some areas, while the BMW will beat it in other areas.

I wouldn't hesitate keeping the Infiniti for 100K+ miles....for the 335i its just not realistic due to the maintenance issues; and the UNKNOWN maintenance issues of the twin turbo.

did I mention idrive sucks as well?

btw - I like BMWs, hard to tell...but yes I do!

When a legitimate magazine finds fault with a BMW, we simply cite the tens of others that love them. Face it, no other manufacture in its class receives as much praise as BMW; and thats not bias, thats engineering.

Steve has not convinced me...the 335i is quick enough to blow the G37 off the road, yet that performance comes without sacrificing comfort. The 335i never feels crude, harsh or unrefined. No other car plays both sides of that fence (performance and refinement) so perfectly. From where I sit the BMW 335i is still the ultimate small sport sedan.

Do you know what the G37 is, its the 12th generation JDM skyline coupe. The skyline has been around since 1957, and the 3-serie since 1976. So if there was no skyline there would be no 3-serie.

G37 is a better VALUE. The BMW is a better overall ride quality and refinement. I drove both and the BMW just feels better. The new G37 is definitely a better car then its predecessor! Fewer rattles and much better interior. It is amazing how Infiniti and Lexus are improving their brands in such a short time. Do not kid yourselves if you do not think they are not taking MBs and BMWs into their engineering bldgs.

I have no doubts the G37 beats the BMW 335 coupe. I have no doubts the IS350 beats the BMW 335 sedan, period.
What's interesting is that Nissan and Toyota always had the same engine size in their competing cars, until Nissan came out with the 3.5, but Toyota took it 3 years to have its own and more powerful 3.5, then of course Nissan increased the power in their 3.5 engines.

Now, Nissan is moving up to 3.7, that means Toyota will do too, but until it does Nissan will be a head of it for few years having more power.

Now its time for the German also to catch up to Nissan, otherwise they'll be left behind, as they are now.

I am sure I will get de-boosted for this. I must admit that hearing people say the Infiniti interior is cheap relative to the BMW makes me wonder what people are on. I admit that for me anything without a leather dash gets labeled into the “cheap” category immediately. So from my point of view such a distinction is minutia- they are both shades of cheap. I do understand that this is a $30,000 and not a $300,000 car but even I were under that delusion, it wouldn’t change my following point.

I prefer the Infiniti interior and here is why: the BMW dash leaves absolutely no ambiguity about what it is made of. The fact that the dash is a big hunk of plastic [read “cheap”] is overt by virtue of its design- leather does not crease at angles like that. The Infiniti interior has the advantage of being more subdued about the fact that the dash is plastic.
I did notice they didn’t do such an exceptional job of matching the grain from the dash to the door- or so it appears. This isn’t and English car though where there are large wood sections that simply look horrendous if they are not matched- perhaps that is why they went with a fairly regular tightly grained wood.

I don't think the 3-series is a good comparison for this car. They should be comparing it to other Japanese cars in this segment like the IS350.

The Infiniti is a great car. But the brand has a long way to go before it is thought of as a premium. How many celeberties drive infinity? Zero. No one would ever aspire to own one.

Yeah ricemaster, camry and lexus has such good roll contol. That's why I will see so many on the racetrack when I am driving my BMW. What a retarded comment! Look at the membership numbers for autoclubs in the US and you'll see which cars are sports worthy and which are not.

BTW, I just looked at the most recent autocross results for golden gate SCCA (one of the biggest chapters in the US), and there were exactly ZERO inifitys racing (or lexus). Pretty much every other brand showed up! Get a clue!

Agent 001 if you are going to see Steve from Infiniti again. Casually ask him why Infiniti didn't design the G37 with a better weight distribution (54/46 is ridiculous for luxury/sport car), and why not add more torque (30 ft-lbs less than 335i) as well as HP. And why is the G37 so heavy (200 pounds heavier) when compared to the 335i. If he's spent 100's of hours in the Bimmer then he should know that if Infiniti is serious about beating BMW at their own game you can't over look these important factors. I'm just wondering if Infiniti opted for more toys than performance to mask these design flaws.

hey supermoto, how many celeberties driving BMW 3 series, none, but do they drive BMW yes... X5 or 7. there are some celeberties do drive Infinti QX56. celeberties need bigger expensive cars, not a G37...
but soon they will buy Skyline GTR

Look you have to accept the fact that the 3 series has always been the car to beat in it's class. I'm not certain the G37 actually beats the BMW but it's now close enough that when you factor in price it wins hands down. The Bimmer is simply not worth 5 grand more then the Infiniti in driving enjoyment.You have to give Infiniti credit for a great effort here. And while the G37 does not really break any new styling themes over the G35 it still looks better then the BMW as a coupe.Perhaps with the 3rd generation Infiniti Coupe Nissan will make gains in weight and weight distribution.

Infiniti won for price ... Bmw is larger, more spacious trunk, faster, stops better, handles better, more solid, better resale value ... How exactly did the Infiniti win? price ... The 335 is an awesome car. Ask steve : 1. why didnt infiniti bring an engine to the table that offers the performance of the BMW or at least close? .7 of a second is a pretty big gap ... 2. why doesnt the G37 offer more passenger space or cargo space? What is the point of making the car larger without having any space for any passengers or cargo. 8 cu ft of trunk space is ridiculous. not being able to fit anyone in the rear seat, even though it is longer than the BMW ... In real world driving the G37 is not that practical. Then on top of that the BMW is more solid, maint is included, bmw assist ( onstar version ) included for 4 years & better resale value ...
