Have the Lexus IS-F Japanese Specs Been Prematurely Leaked?
That may well be the case. First brought to our attention by my.IS member IS300_S in an IS-F Forum discussion thread, an article from the Japanese-language Lexus Times Blog posts some seemingly credible, yet, at this point, unofficial numbers. Add to that whatever gets lost in translation via Babelfish, and these numbers should be taken simply as informed speculation. After all, even that translation says "This information still is unsettled ones". Sounds to us like they're re-emphasizing that the numbers are unofficial. Also up in the air are how (or if) these specifications would vary for North America, Europe, the rest of Asia, the Middle East and Australia/New Zealand.
The article seems to imply that the IS-F specifications are supposed to be announced (to the world? to Lexus dealers in Japan?) on Thursday 4 October 2007. That being the case, Lexus has actually moved the date forward from the previously-planned Press Conferences for the Tokyo Auto Show, either on Wednesday 24 October or Thursday 25 October 2007.

I don't think 6hp will mean that it's slower. The 8-speed transmission and the 60 more ft/lbs of torque will probably do the trick in regards to better track times then the M3. Like with most Lexus/BMW rivalries it will come down to which one you like better.

It's the car's handling that produces better track times, not torque or transmissions. Why do you think the Lotus Elise is faster around a track than a Lamborghini LP640?

Why would they say over 409? Why not 410 or 415? Because it probably only has 410hp. Disappointing to say the least.

It doesn't matter. The Lexus IS-F is better than the M3 or RS4 even with less horsepower. Unlike those German POS cars the IS-F has something called quality and reliability and an 8 speed automatic for total performance.

I think Lexus keeps stalling because they are affraid of embarrassment. This car will be a joke compared to the Germans.
I bet you right now Lexus is trying to add bolt on last minute perfeormance modifications to every already made to look like "less" of a failure and justify its existence.
It doesnt strike me that Toyota/Lexus is proud of this car. If nothing is wrong then why the mystery?

The IS-F will have the last laugh when it smokes your POS C class taxi on the most challenging track in the world: the Nurnbergring!
The IS-F already outclasses the RS4 and M3 which both outclass the taxi C63.

I agree X-Drive. Lexus is 100% about marketing. Their philosophy "If you feed rubbish to people long enough they will eventually like the taste". Its human nature. Look at these radical muslims. You couldnt beat it out of them with a stick, they are willing to die for ridiculous crazed ideas, Just like David989 goes to extremes with Lexus. Does he even have a Lexus? Can he even afford one or has ever driven one? These are the questions that answers to would be VERY interesting

Lexus has just been letting us see pictures of the IS-F but nothing else. And what are you talking about with the 8C? IT WAS A CONCEPT. This car will most certainly find its niche, as there are so many buyers coming of age now, raised on GranTurismo, that can't get enough of these over-kitted little rice-rockets, .
I not my kind of car, due to its rather immature/embarrassing styling, but the performance numbers should be competitive...

So this will have over 409 HP, and over 368 Pound feet of torque. The torque is the key figure. The M3 has 295 pound feet, which is 5 LESS than the 335i. The IS-F seems to have out-torqued everybody except the C63 AMG. Now if it weighs less than M3 and the RS4 and C63, it will be a true contender...

Is straight-line speed all that matters? If so, the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is the best performance sedan in the world, ever.
But both of us know it's not true. Even if the IS-F has a 0.2 second advantage for 0-60, what really matters in a performance sedan is how the car handles. We KNOW Lexus will make the car fast- anyone can. The true test lies elsewhere. BMW (of course), Audi and Mercedes-Benz have already passed with flying colors.

Well the M3's power plant has already been put in the shade by the Amazing C63's engine. And the Audi RS4 engine revs as high and has more torque. Lexus would be applauded just to match the performance of the M3.
I can't wait for a group test, I also can't wait for the CTS-V to show the Lexus the way!

When the GT-R hits road, the talk will be about it first and foremost as the performance leader representing Japan.

In all seriousness, I believe the GT-R will steal alot of the thunder from the Lexus IS-F. Not much in the way of performance estimates for the IS-F is reason for the attention being paid to the GT-R, which has been grabing headlines as one of the (claimed!) fastest machines ever to go around the Nuburgring. Someone over at Lexus was somewhat too secretive with the IS-F. Maybe they should have taken a page out of the GT-R playbook and chased down a few Porsches to fuel the rumor mill.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Infiniti should have been the first from Japan to offer a competitor at this level. The G35 is the only car that comes close to the 3 series in terms of handling, (the power is certainly there). Problem? Infiniti has little brand cache. It would be a tough sale at this price point, because, let's face it, most buyers want the badge, not the performance (not everyone is like us out there...)

You are absolutely right, Infiniti needs to do what Lexus has done and define their brand styling. When I first saw the new G I thought "great looking car". when is saw the new Altima I thought. "great, Nissan just compromise the new G buy family resemblance". Acura has this same problem.

The Japanese lux brands need to hire European actors and voice artists to narrate their car commercials. After a few years, no one will question their luxury brand image LOL. M35, I completely agree. I've been saying this for a few years. An Infiniti performance line would just make so much sense. While Lexus is trying to be all things to all people, Infiniti can focus on being the Japanese BMW, making incredible performance vehicles that would put any other Japanese luxury sedan to shame (notice how I don't include EVO and STi).
"Problem? Infiniti has little brand cache."
True, but by creating a performance arm, their prestige would only improve. You have to spend money to make money.

What Infiniti lacks (proper marketing, dedicated team of designers, engineers etc.) Lexus makes up for in spades. And I don't know where one gets the idea of Lexus trying to be a "Jack-of-all-trades" seeing as Lexus doesn't even have a compact economy car like the other mainstream "prestigious" brands. A premium luxury brand going upmarket and into the performance step is a natural and completely understandable move, for a brand of Lexus' new stature.

The main point is, that Infiniti's perform better than Lexus'. A Lexus may be more refined, but as S4 put it, Infiniti is the 'Japanese BMW', and there's nothing wrong with that. One thing is good, the G and the M have their own identity - they are not rips of bimmers by any means, and they are usually respected by Bimmer fans.

"What Infiniti lacks (proper marketing, dedicated team of designers, engineers etc.) Lexus makes up for in spades."
I actually think Infiniti models are both better-looking and better-engineered than Lexus cars. They may not park themselves, but they're just so much more fun. The only Lexus cars that I think look better are IS vs. G and LX470 vs. QX56. LX570 may be different... and the G37 is much better-looking than the IS- even if they don't compete.
"And I don't know where one gets the idea of Lexus trying to be a "Jack-of-all-trades" seeing as Lexus doesn't even have a compact economy car like the other mainstream "prestigious" brands."
Why don't you go read the article about their new 1 Series clone?
And if you think that small cars are "downmarket," you've never driven one. The 1 Series, A3, Mini, GTI etc. are all very impressive.
The way Lexus is aiming is hard to deny. I think they should focus on what they do best- luxury cars. But they just can't seem to stay doing that. They have to be BMW, Mercedes and Audi at the same time.

What you fail to realize is that the NSX remained essentially unchanged since 1990 with only a minor displacement increase. Way to go BMW, keeping up with the 90s are we?
How about the 1993 Supra TT, makes the run in 5sec flat and it wasn't designed to be a real race car like the NSX and M3. Took BMW 14 years to make a turbo that could catch it.
Hey, the Germans could make a M335xiCLS for $35K if they wanted to, but they know their customers are too stupid to know any better.
S4,
You are correct, no BMW except the M5 with its 10 cylinders can keep up with an STi on dry pavement. Throw in some weather and BMW might as well go back to making airplanes.

"What you fail to realize is that the NSX remained essentially unchanged since 1990 with only a minor displacement increase. Way to go BMW, keeping up with the 90s are we?"
Again, I mention the fact that the NSX was a supercar. It was designed to out-Ferrari, Ferrari. I don't care how old it is- you should be celebrating the fact that a relatively middling car like the 335i of today can keep up with such a great performance car of yesterday.
Lexus, Audi, Merc, etc. are all having a little trouble "keeping up with the 90s" if you want to put it that way- considering the 335i is the best car for $45K.
"How about the 1993 Supra TT, makes the run in 5sec flat and it wasn't designed to be a real race car like the NSX and M3. Took BMW 14 years to make a turbo that could catch it."
The Supra was designed to be more hardcore than the M3. You should know that. The M3 is an amped-up 3 Series. The Supra had its own platform and was therefore able to be developed with performance only in mind. It's a little mind-boggling to me that you're comparing them.
The new M3 can keep up with an STi. 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. It may cost a lot more- but it's worth it. It looks better, handles better, is WAY nicer on the inside and has blue chip credibility.
I think all of the comparisons you made are stupid and I probably should not have replied to them. Whatever.
