Faithful to its original design intention as a global car, the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan is currently in the markets of Asia, Europe and Australia and will ultimately reach US showrooms in just over a year.

Since it is a global car, any variations of the original can still be offered internationally and this is what transpired with the latest hatch variant which is currently being developed at Holden. The Australian division of GM has established that the small hatchback patterned after the Cruze is scheduled to hit production by the third quarter of 2010, and will completely be designed and engineered in Australia, which obviously implies that it will be to a large extent distinct from the Cruze sedan upon which it is founded. In contrast to the Cruze, the hatchback will be more of a high-end model. It will come with sportier steering and suspension adjustments, and Commodore-inspired styling. The car can also be powered by premium powerplants such as the 1.4-liter turbocharged engine from the latest 2010 Opel Astra, in contrast to the naturally ventilated 1.8-liter of the Chevrolet Cruze.
