If they bring something like this to the US, and not continue the G8 with a Chevy badge, someone needs their balls ripped off.

I have some Ideas for the G8.

1. Take the powertrain and Platform and combine it with the Chinese Buick Riviera, and just have it as Buicks sports car in 3 door form, and then elongate it as a top of the line luxury sports sedan. Hey Hyundai wants to duke it out with Buick where they live at, and they can do it cheaper. However, guess what Buick doesnt has that Hyundai does have? A sports car/Sports Sedan.

2. Badge it as a Chevy, give it some exotic name or you can go Traditional. Can you say Caprice?

3. Badge it as a Chevy, and merge the G8 Platform with the Impala Platform, and either make that the Next Gen Impala, or call it Monte Carlo. Make a baby truck and call it El Camino.

Reliablity:

The Accent is more reliable historically than TDIs made from 1998-2006. If you get a TDI before 1998 its a good car, if you get a New one its a good car. By the way, I have 75,000 miles on the 2007, and the engine is just starting to break in. It does take a very long time for Hyundai engines to break in, so you know what that means.

Tuning:

The VW has a larger aftermarket tuner base, but the Accent can be tuned with some slick thinking, and resourcefulness. It will be more fun to tune the Accent than the TDI, and it will teach you a lot about cars.

Servicing:

The TDI with its complex German engineering will be a lot harder and more expensive to service than the Accent. The Accent is very simple and straightforwardly engineered. The parts are like old school American cars, the thing is an erector set. Hyundai/KIA has found the US Auto industry pre-1970, and picked up where it left off and made it modern, more reliable, better, and efficient.

Fuel Eocnomy:

This is where the TDI leaves the Accent in the dust. Accent is a 37 MPG gas burner, while the Old and New TDIs are 50 MPG oil burners. Hyundai is considering, bringing there new 1.6 CRDi U2 Diesel engine, that gets 64 MPG for the Accent in America. They use this motor in the Hyundai i20, and Elantra (i30) diesels. But until then, the TDI has the Accent beat.

HP/Torque:

The Old TDI has less 25 less HP than the Accent, but 50 more torques than the Accent. The New TDI has 15 less HP than the Accent, but 70 more torques!!!!! :o

Theres a lot of Hyundai/KIA Traditionalists that have a problem with Hyundais new North American design. However, the surveys show the problem people have with Hyundais is design. They know the cars last and wont break, but they think the design makes them look like they are cheap enough to break. I go to a lot of non-Hyundai sites, and I publish articles for online Auto Journals. I advocate everyday for the Hyundai buyer, but a lot of people hated our past designs. The Current gen Accent for example: People know its a great car architecurally, but they think is crap just becuase of the design of the interior and exterior. I own one, but I consider it as a 5 year car. Meaning, I will only own it for 5 years becuase thats how long I will get tired of it befor ei want a more attractive new one, and yes I plan to get the 2011.

The Average car buyer raves at how the Current Gen Elantra feels of quality, but they think the car is only ok, becuase of the simplistic, or as they say “Old people looking” design. People believe that the Tuscon is a quite the competent little crossover, but there we go again with the styling.

Hyundai is starting to listen to people. Even if the Hyundai Traditionalists have a problem with the radical much needed new design directions the company is going.
