Honda Plans To Introduce An Entry-Level Hybrid in 2009
Hot on the heels of Toyota's announcement that they'll be streamlining hybrid production and offering every vehicle in its lineup with the gas-electric option, a Honda sales exec has confirmed that beginning in mid-2009, a new hybrid will be launched. Production is expected to be around 200,000 per year, which is a substantial sum considering that Toyota's popular Prius sold 186,000 units across the globe in 2006. Read Article

Looks like Toyota's recent announcement does make many of others nervous.

It's still extremely surprising that Honda isn't fully on board with hybrids. Toyota really was ahead of the curve.

Honda put out a hybrid car first... remember that.

Toyota has the marketing excellence of many brands put together- not necessarily the engineering excellence.

Hybrid Fit and Yaris. If you're willing to drive a car that small, that's some crazy mileage and even less emissions.

Toyota was just more into the hybrid thing than Honda(the first to introduce Hybrid technology). They are able to make hybrid vehicles just as good as Toyota's whether you like to believe or not. Honda's aren't bad and reliability and fuel efficiency is not a problem.

Two thumbs up to Honda for reintroducing the Hybrid

What's the Civic Hybrid, then?

I love Honda, but you can't get much lower than that. A Fit Hybrid would be absolutely ridiculous. 70mpg!

You would be surprised at how many people could potentially buy that. Honda is an eco brand like Toyota and Nissan except Honda and Toyota are the leaders of the pack. People will buy their products whether it's LOW class or not. I think it will do okay not great but just fine.

i love the fit! if it came with a sunroof i would seriously consider one for my next car. it looks great, it's roomy inside, handles better than most anything, costs less than $15k, and it's a HONDA.
