American Honda Motor Co. Inc. said Tuesday it will spend $70 million to renovate a Honda logistics facility in Marysville, Ohio, into a production plant to build the all-new Acura NSX.
The company said production at the new Performance Manufacturing Center is expected to start in 2015. Honda will recruit about 100 skilled-trades manufacturing workers from within Honda operations in Ohio to build the supercars.
"They're going to leverage 30 years of experience of building cars in North America and that's … one of the main reasons why we were picked as a location for building the NSX," Clement D'Souza, associate chief engineer at Honda of America, said in a call with reporters.
The automaker said the new plant will use both automation and handcraftsmanship to build the luxury vehicle.
