Honda Up 1.9% While Acura Posts Drop Of 8.0% In February

American Honda Motor Co Inc posted record February sales results of 115,397 Honda and Acura vehicles, an increase of 0.7 percent over February 2007, the company announced today. American Honda light trucks also posted record monthly results with sales of 52,557, up 1.9 percent. Year-to-date American Honda total vehicle sales of 213,908 were ahead of last year, but down 0.6 percent on a daily-selling-rate basis*.

The Honda Division posted its best February ever with record sales of 102,313 cars and light-trucks; an increase of 1.9 percent over year-ago results. February records for individual models included Fit sales of 4,326, up 61.8 percent; CR-V sales of 15,694, up 11.4 percent; and Pilot sales of 12,881, up 19.3 percent. The division also posted record February light-truck sales of 46,303 trucks, up 3.0 percent over last year.

"Customers wanting to upsize their fuel efficiency without downsizing vehicle utility chose Fit, Pilot and CR-V in record numbers this month," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "With an all-new Pilot on the horizon for June, it's great to see continued strong demand for the current model."

The Acura Division posted total vehicle sales of 13,084 units, down 8.0 percent. The MDX luxury SUV was Acura's best-selling model, with strong February sales of 4,545 and year-to-date sales of 8,527.

*The daily selling rate is calculated with 50 days year-to-date 2008, versus 49 for 2007. February 2008 included 25 selling days, versus 24 for 2007.

Acura sales are down but that is to be expected since it has a much older product line than its competitors. I think sales will increase when the new TSX and TL are released.

RDX down almost 20%? For a car that was new in 2007, that's rough, no?

I assume the Lexus RX gave it some trouble. That car is still awesome despite its age.

Best looking in class.
Best quality in class.
Best fuel economy in class (RX400h).
Best interior in class.
Best value in class.
Best reliability in class.

Should I go on?

20% decline for the RDX is pretty tough! I don't think it was the RX that gave it trouble there MichaelTaylor...they are in different classes of size, price, engine, at least I thought so. RX is more on par with the MDX.

Ihaveared2000, that's interesting. Even though it's down considerably from last year, the RDX's sales are still easily leading the segment.

Yea, I was surprised myself to see the RDX leading its segment in sales...I love Acura/Honda but I must admit that the RDX is not my favorite...

The new Accord is getting killed, it looks they're giving sales to Toyota, Nissan And Chevy. The camry, altima and Malibu were all up this past month.

I honestly think ppl are going into the showroom for the accors and walking away with the Civic becuase of the extra size of the accord. Honda is cannabolizing their own sales. Not a very smart strategic move.

I agree that they screwed up the styling of the Accord; I really wanted to like it, but couldn't like the pictures so I thought I would check it out in person, and it still didn't help.

Some people say they really like the coupe, but to me, that one is even worse.

Honda & Acura need better designers; the sooner, the better.

You are usually one of the more sane people on this board S4, so what happened with this comment? :)) I'll give you hurting pretty badly, but hardly dead. I just wish Honda/Acura would have stolen some of those Audi designer's instead of the GM/Saturn one's. The new A4 looks amazing.

Acuras product line is old and down right awful but Acura is far from dead - it still sells a lot of cars and I feel their next generation of cars (next 5 years) are finally going to get serious about performance and luxury...I think...I hope...they better!

So someone in college should drive a ????

I say this because I have an expensive taste in cars but Honda helped me through some rough years getting started. Maybe they are crap now(???) but I sure liked them mid 80's to mid 90's...and they were good enough to help me interested in cars as more than transportation.

I knew Acura had lost it years ago when they dropped the Integra. It's only been getting worse. I was at a major car show and realized after I left that I had forgotten to visit their area. I used to be an owner and a fan of the brand, and I had literally forgotten about them. That's bad.

I didn't miss their booth at the Chicago autoshow, but I wish I had. The new RL was real, not some scary made-up story used to keep little kids in line.

If Acura is dead then what about Lexus and BMW? Lexus numbers dropped 9.3% and BMW 6.7%.

"Acura = Dead"

What an intelligent comment. I don't think they are dead. New models like RL and TSX will certainly help the sales. and also the rumoured 400BHP S class/LS rival is just around the corner.

Good luck Acura.

btw CR-V is just awesome. Class leader for sure. Here in UAE i see tons of them. but Accord sales are not that impressive. I thought it would be up in double digits as it's a brand new model but they are actually down.
