Honda's CEO Says NSX Will Spank BOTH The LF-A and The GT-R Around Nürburgring
The latest prototype of the 2011 Acura NSX has hit the Nürburgring, and according to our sources in Japan, it has a very specific goal. We're told that Takeo Fukui, CEO of Honda, has tasked his R&D team with building an NSX that's faster around the Nürburgring than both the Nissan GT-R and the upcoming Lexus LF-A.
It's a tall order, and one that Honda hopes it can achieve through the use of a 5.5-liter V10 expected to make 550 horses, with a torque peak expected to top 420 pound-feet. The engine is essentially a slightly larger version of the V8 that Honda will use for the next-generation, rear-wheel-drive RL sedan, and it will use cylinder deactivation under light loads for maximum efficiency. Additional gains will come from the use of an eight-speed, paddle-shifted automatic.

US is not technically in a recession; we still have growth. Peoples point of view points to recession since everything is soooo damn expensive.
This is a tall order for the NSX. Lets wait and see. Hopefully they use an actual production car for the Ring.

There's no doubt in my mind that the new NSX will be a circuit carver. The only thing that's aggrivating me is the fact that it looks almost exactly like the LF-A.
Hhmm, which one would I want more; the Lexus LF-A or the Honda "LF-A"?

How the heck do you get a GTR out of that shape? They look nothing alike. The NSX is a 2 seater too, unlike the 2+2 GTR.

From the pictures the NSX looks like a 2 seater coupe.. from everything we know the NSX is going to be a 2 seater...
HOWEVER.. if you read the article, is states that the NSX is going to be a "2+2 sports car"? Did anyone else catch this? I'm sure it must be a typo..
QUOTE FROM THE LINK
"Getting the power to the ground will be a modified version of Honda's Super-Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD) system. Packaging could be tight, however, as this NSX will place its V10 up front. A combination of steel and aluminum will be used for the chassis that will form the basis of this 2+2 sports car."
That must be a typo..?

Since this was the 3rd Acura NSX post, I left reading the article alone. One of the concepts looked to be a 2+2; the one that looked like a silver shoe. It reminded me of a pair of basketball shoes that some nba player came out with a few years ago....ugly shoe. Like ufos on your feet.
Acura should scrap everything, and build a 4wd race car based on the HSC Concept.

HAHAHA LMAO In the same class as the Bugatti!! Ha Ha, First they are not even the same type of car. The Bugatti is far more luxury GT coupe on steroids like, and the LFA is more of an exotic, and slotted below the Veyron. I'm Sure the LFA will have a nice interior, but it will not even be close to the Veyron, and certainly not as easy to drive.

Spydog - you are correct! It is made at the original Bugatti estate near Molsheim, in the Alsace region of France.
Don't let the German name fool you. The Alsace and Lorraine regions have been tossed back and forth between the French and the Germans for centuries.
Molsheim was part of the German Empire when Ettore Bugatti established his car company there. Who knows, if the Germans win the next war with the French, it might be German again! LOL

None of these so-called "official" lap times of GT-R, LF-A, ZR-1, CTS-V etc. on the Nürburgring have ever been approved by neutral authorities. So what are we here talking about? How can Honda compare a car of the future with other non-existing or non-tested cars?

Lighten up people is just a joke(at least mine). Nobody hates cars like the GT-R or NSX. Unfortunately many people compare them with cars that belong to another segment(like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini) and that creates a little animosity. Nevertheless they are great cars.

Why should we lighten up? No one here was mad or angry at what was said. In fact, someone was mentioned it was funny.
If you don't think that they should be compared to to the "traditional" players in this market then why do all mags think that way? And please don't rely on your "brainwashing" argument, it's so lame.

43LE,
Fair enough:
1) because there is nothing else to compare it with(except for the Corvette)
2) because any article that claims that poor people can buy "the same thing" as the rich for less money is going to be a triumphal success.
When you tell somebody who drives a Nissan that the brand that made his car now built a "baby Veyron" that is as fast or faster than cars costing 4-5 times more he is going to be filled with pride and joy and imagine that the GT-R matches those cars at every level not only in performance. It's human nature and I do understand it. Clarkson used this technique more than anybody else and gained huge popularity with the masses. With that said the GT-R is not a supercar. It doesn't sound like a supercar, it doesn't look like a supercar, is not built like a supercar. It should be appreciate it for what it is...a really fast car and not put on a pedestal with cars that offer much more than just performance.

The NSX will come close to the GT-R, but when HOnda release the NSX-R or Type-R version of it, then it'll definitely take down GT-R V Spec-II.
However, rumor has it that there is already a Nissmo GT-R V Spec-II in development which makes as much or more power than even the C6 Corvette ZR1.
Lexus will probably counter that with a L-tune version of the TRD LF-A-F.

and few competitions get as HOT as when japanese companies try to one-up each other. look at the WHITE-HOT rivalries in the japanese motorcycle wars.
this will usher in a NEW AGE of affordable exoticar performance, whether or not nissan and honda follow lexus to the LUXURY performance genre.

Funny how Porsche is not in the target.
UK Evo and Car mags recently featured articles/group test on current and previous Porsche classic models. I wonder if these are Porsche's spin doctors doing their PR after their aftermath with GTR.
Porsche order book was also reported slowing down few weeks ago in this blog.
These are certainly interesting times for supercars, GTR already shocked the germans, while rumours on the LFA and NSX replacement has raised eyebrows even further.
Haven't heard anything brewing from porsche lately other than routine facelift or model replacement. Porsche need to return some answers to these japs.
Even the R8 fame was shortlived and overshadowed by the GTR.
These new cars will certainly be making waves or headlines in racing. Porsche would not want to be their shadows, so give us something porsche!!

Some folks over at globalmotors.net have an unofficial hand timed lap of 7:37 for this car in heavy traffic. With the GTR running 7:29, this car should be able to get pretty close to that time. Now with regards to "spanking" the GTR, no where near that yet. Plus, the GTR spec V hasn't been timed officially yet. I think most here know that I sell Acura (quite well) and I love the products, but Mr. Fukai might be overstating a bit. Unless they really do plan on beating the times of these cars, but by that time other cars will have beaten them also. Just bring us the Damn car already.

I guess with the GT-R and LF-A both looking the way they do Honda probably felt they might as well join them. It's too bad they can't make a V10 screaming monster that's still got its engine placed in the middle. That would add some exotic flavor to the automotive industry.
It is what it is. Bold statement by Honda's CEO. I hope the styling is as bold as what he said.

Competition is a good thing, at least for us consumers. The proof is in the pudding, as the saying goes, so there's no need to speculate. Let's see what it can do once it's released. Nissan set the bar pretty high with their GT-R.
Also, if we're comparing cars try to keep the comparisons to cars in the same category? Despite all its HP the Veyron wouldn't do nearly as well around a curvy racetrack because of all its weight. The Bugatti is more of a luxury sports tourer/autobahn cruiser than a true sports car.
