Funny thing is I was just looking at it on the Honda website as my next possible car if gas prices keep rising.

get it used. Those things are expensive new... if you can find a decent priced used one. Some of those run for almost the same price as new.

if you are gonna keep that car for a long time, or put a lot of miles, it is better for you to get a new one so you know how the car was treated well and never been trashed.
for example, i drive about 100 miles daily, and typically keep the car for more than 7 years (that's at least 150k miles), a peace of mind that my car is in the perfect condition and won't give out the freeway is more than the few thousand dollar that i would have saved if i get a used car.

Tru but if you can find one with just 3000 or less miles on it, it may be good to have the certified warranty up to 100k miles and try to haggle a lower price (good luck with that tho)

Canadian dollar is at par now ... no price difference.
And no duty if its NAFTA (built in Canada, US, or Mexico).
Thus, small Chevies are imports and have duty (built in Korea) but small VWs are domestics (built in Mexico) ... times have changed!

There still IS a price difference with very little product differentiation. I've seen the CSX on the road here. It's a tarted up Civic, but just barely qualifies as "tarted up." They slapped on some extra rear lights and leather seats and called it a day.

It does not matter where it is made the MONEY STILL GOES BACK TO JAPAN'S COUNTRY, AND A JAPANESE COMPANY.

AS AMERICANS WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER, MORE NOW THAN EVER BEFORE BEHIND AMERICAN COMPANY'S.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO GET A SMALL ECONOMIC CAR WHY NOW LOOK AT, GM IS COMING OUT WITH HYBRYD'S THIS FALL JUST WAIT UNTIL THEN AND I EVEN THINK THEY MAY HAVE A FEW MODELS OUT NOW JUST CHECK OUT THIS WEBSITE http://www.chevrolet.com/fuelsolutions/

HERE IS A OPTION CHECK THIS OUT. CHEVEY AND HERE IS A QUOTE FROM MOTOR TREND.

"Chevrolet Aveo Current Year 2008 Cool Fact: In terms of price, packaging, and looks, the versatile Aveo hatchback LS holds its own against its import competitors.
Sum Up: alternative to a used corolla. "

IF WE DO NOT START NOW, PEOPLE THINK WE HAVE TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES NOW! IF WE DO NOT START TO SUPPORT AMERICAN MANUFACTURES, TIMES WILL GET MUCH MUCH TOUGHER.

IF WE KEEP SEEING LAY OFFS WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, TO YOUR JOBS WELL THEY COULD BE ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK, PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY TIGHTEN THIER BELTS AND ARE NOT SPENDING MONEY IF WE SEE MORE AND MORE LAYOFFS WE ARE GOING TO KEEP SEEING LESS SPENDING. IF WE SEE HONDA SALES GO UP AND OUR AUTO MAKERS SALES GO DOWN WE ARE IN TROUBLE.

BANKS ARE LAYING OFF THE WORK FORCE,

CONSTUCTION WORKERS HAVE HAD LAY OFFS BECAUSE OF REAL ESTATE GOING DOWN,

THE AMERICAN AUTO MANUFACTURES ARE LAYING OFF OUR WORK FORCE,

AND SINCE GAS PRICES BEING SO HIGH, JUST WATCH AND NEXT YOU WILL SEE LAY OFF'S WITH THE AIRLINES AND TRAVEL INDUSTRY.

WE MUST SUPPORT OUR COUNTRY AT LEAST TRY!! AND LOOK AT AMERICAN CARS 1ST!!!! LOOK AT THE SATURN'S, CHEVEY'S, FORDS, AND DODGES. WE ARE MAKING A CAR THAT IS AS OR MORE RELIEABLE AS THE IMPORTS.

INFACT A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A HONDA WHICH HE WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HONDA AGAIN!!!!!! HIS WIFE HAS A OLDSMOBILE ALERO WHICH HAS NOT HAD ONE PROBLEM EXCEPT FOR THE BATTEREY AND 2 SETS OF BRAKE PADS, HIS HONDA ACCORD IS A YEAR NEWER THE THE OLDSMOBILE AND HE HAS HAD TO PUT 4 SETS OF BRAKE PADS, STRUTS, PLUS OTHER MAINTENCE ISSUES WITH THE HONDA, THE HONDA'S A/C JUST WENT OUT AND SO THE HONDA NOW NEEDS THE COMPRESSOR REPLACED THE HONDA SERVICE DEPT QUOTED HIM 1600. PLUS WHILE HE HAD THE HONDA IN THE SHOP HE ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE BRAKES SINCE THE BRAKES ARE VIBRATING AND SQEEKING THEY TOLD HIM HE NOW NEEDS NEW BARKE ROTORS AND PADS AGAIN SO HIS SHOP BILL IS GOING TO BE ALMOST 2100.00 WHICH HE JUST SPENT ON THE HONDA 800.00 BECAUSE THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT LAST WEEK, HIS WIFES OLDSMOBILE HAS 127,000 MILES ON IT AND HIS HONDA ACCORD HAS 122,000 MILES. SO WHICH CAR IS MORE REALIABLE THE AMERICAN CAR IS!!!!

I JUST SPENT A FEW MINUTES RESERCHING ONE AMERICAN CAR WITH BETTER GAS MILAGE, BY GOING TO MOTOR TREND, BECAUSE OF READING THIS ARTICLE AND SEEING OUR HOW ARE ECONOMIC TIMES NOW.

I KNOW THAT IF YOU LOOK 1ST AT AMERICAN AUTOS YOU WILL FIND SOME GREAT AMERICAN CARS, YOU WILL ALSO BE SUPPORTING YOUR COUNTY'S ECONOMICS AND YOU WILL BE HELPI

the aveo was the most crappiest car I've been in. sorry, but its mpg was a joke, and so was the interior and driving it in the freeway. supporting american workers?its made in korea under the name of daewoo btw. have you been in the honda fit? yes it was versatile and quite nice to be in and was much more practical. it even had a stick. 1. AS AMERICANS WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER, MORE NOW THAN EVER BEFORE BEHIND AMERICAN COMPANY'S.

Americans need to work harder and efficiently. not standing together

2. ....GM IS COMING OUT WITH HYBRYD'S THIS FALL....
Toyota Prius is already celebrating its 10th anniversary

3. "Chevrolet Aveo Current Year 2008 Cool Fact: In terms of price, packaging, and looks, the versatile Aveo hatchback LS holds its own against its import competitors.

Brand new Aveo = used corolla
ie. Brand new corolla is still better

4. ...PEOPLE THINK WE HAVE TOUGH ECONOMIC TIMES NOW
Its already is. politicians are denying this.

5. ...IF WE KEEP SEEING LAY OFFS... / ...BANKS ARE LAYING OFF THE WORK FORCE..
See...Its already is

6. ....WE MUST SUPPORT OUR COUNTRY AT LEAST TRY!! AND LOOK AT AMERICAN CARS 1ST!!!! LOOK AT THE SATURN'S, CHEVEY'S, FORDS, AND DODGES. WE ARE MAKING A CAR THAT IS AS OR MORE RELIEABLE AS THE IMPORTS....
Capitalism is about survival of the fittest. Consumer will buy the best. American Automotive Industry has gone down hill since the 90's with improvement, efficiency and reliability of japanese cars.

7. ....INFACT A FRIEND OF MINE HAS A HONDA...........SO WHICH CAR IS MORE REALIABLE THE AMERICAN CAR IS!!!!
apparently these are wear & tear issues. This 'story' will not convince the market. The statistics tells a better story.

It's truly sad, (and you have my sympathy) the manner of your patriotic writings. But that's the grim reality.

the problem is in the leadership of Washington and how the US is managed. Its priority seems to be more on foreign policies than american cars.

I spent some time in the Civic SI last summer, and I have to admit it is a fun little car to drive. Now granted the SI doesn't get as good gas mileage as the lesser models, but I think it is a very good trade off given the price of fuel right now.

Of course there have been articles stating that the run up on crude oil may be the next big bubble market, and in fact personally have made some money already betting against oil. I would simply say don't make a knee jerk reaction based on what may end up being a short term "crisis." The truth is we started the summer season with a surplus of gasoline, and the number of people on the road is actually down, and we all know that when supply is larger than demand, prices drop.

I am not saying I am right, but there has been no major increase in worldwide demand to justify the price of crude oil going from $84 to $130+ in the last 4-5 months that this increase has occurred. If you saw that sort of increase on your house, or in a particular housing market, EVERYONE would be screaming bubble. The same could be true here as well.

I know a little off track from the original topic of the Civic selling so well, but some thoughts to ponder.

-00J

When that moment comes, Honda and Toyota will be miles ahead by then.

Sales might skyrocket, probably bought by grannies or fleet managers.

honda and toyota engines are years ahead of GM engines with their proven V-Tec and VVTi
Honda civic type-r finished consistently, 37th, 41st, 43rd, 45th ... and these are pretty much stock standard Type R's + roll cage.

Sorry evilm but the 8hp advantage the cobalt has won't overcome it's OVER 500lbs weight disadvantage. Go to cars.com and do a comparison of the two vehicles, you'll see that in the sedan body styles the Honda has more legroom, more headroom, more hip & shoulder room, more passenger volume (interior space). The only thing the cobalt has more of compared to the civic is trunk space and curb weight (BY OVER 500LBS!)

ONE MORE THING FOR EVERYONE TO THINK ABOUT.

YOU JAPFANS WHERE DO YOU THINK AMERICA WOULD BE IF ALL OF THE BIG 3 WENT OUT OF BUSINESS? WE WOULD BE IN DEEP TROUBLE.

JUST LIKE GAS PRICES WE RELY ON FORIEN OIL AND WHAT ARE GAS PRICES???? WE ARE DEPENDENT ON FORIEN OIL IF THEY QUITE SUPPLYING US WE WOULD BE F**KED.

WELL DO YOU NOT SEE WHAT COULD HAPPEN IF THE BIG THREE WENT OUT OF BUSINESS WE WOULD HAVE TO RELY ON IMPORTS FOR OUR AUTOS THAT A SCAREY THOUGHT THEY COULD TAKE THOSE SO CALLED FACTORYS AND TAKE THEM BACK TO JAPAN, THEY THEN COULD RAISE PRICES INFACT IN JAPAN THEIR OWN CARS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THEN THEY ARE HERE BY ABOUT 5 X'S HIGHER.

WHAT COULD THEY DO TO OUR COUNTRY IF THE BIG THREE WHERE GONE.

SO DO NOT SAY OH THE JAPANESE AUTOS ARE MADE HERE BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT OUR COUNTRYS COMPANYS THEY CAN DO ANYTHING THEY WANT TO AND IF AMERICAN'S MAKE SUCH A CRAP CAR THEN WHY DO YOU WANT A JAP CAR MADE HERE IN AMERICA SINCE AMERICANS CANT BUILD A CAR LIKE YOU JAP CAR FANS SAY ALL THE TIME.

Way to go, Honda! What is surprising is that the Civic, in addition to outselling the Ford F-150 (#1 seller since 1992), also leapfrogged the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, the perennial best-selling passenger cars.

Those high gas prices are really making a difference in auto purchasing. I understand that GM is considering selling the Hummer brand.

BY THE WAY THE EPA IS INVESTGATING THE JAPENESE AUTO MANUFACTURE FOR BEING MISLEADING IN BECAUSE THE GAS MILAGE THEY QOUTE IS IN THE VERY VERY BEST ROAD CONDITION.

WHEN GM, FORD AND CHRYSLER THEY ARE CONSERVITIVE WITH WHAT THEY SAY THEIR CARS ARE GOING TO GET.

BECAUSE EVERYTHING WE DO EFFECTS SPENDING, JOBS, AND SALES. THE JAP COMPANYS TAKE MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET AND YOURS!!!!!!!

"THE JAP COMPANYS TAKE MONEY OUT OF MY POCKET AND YOURS!!!!!!!"

if my dads friends business sells only american products, then he'll lose a job. people buy things that benefits themselves, not for others. isn't america all about having a choice? maybe if GM corrected these mistakes 20 yrs ago, then they would've been as sucessful as honda and toyota of now.

they are offering them for 399/month lease with 0 due at signing. If you need a large vehicle for towing or something, that sounds like a great deal.

I own a 2006 Honda Civic and it is great. I have 20,000 miles on it and have had ZERO problems with it! No mechanical problems or rattles. IMO a very well made car and yes it was made in Ohio. Great gas mileage to boot.

well, how 'bout THIS product from the gm "mark of excrescence:" i had a rental chevy once with just a bit over 20k miles. it WHINED (like some people here) at all speeds above 20 mph. it never actually died on me, but it whined and moaned the whole time. my ford focus (yes, i did own one) with more than twice the miles on it seemed less than 1/4 as worn out and tired.

Whoa ... getting a bit off-topic there, boys!

Civic has been the #1 selling model in Canada for several years.
Prior to that the Cavalier was #1 (I'm embarrassed to say)

The Civic has always had great handling. When it came to the US (over 35 years ago!) it was laughed at. Then Road & Track did a comparo against the Porsche 914 (I think it was in 1973 or '74 and I think I still have the magazine somewhere) the Honda whipped the Porsche in all performance categories.

Personally, I don't like a lot of the Japanese cars' styling, but I think the new Civic sedan is one of the nicest looking designs out of Asia - period!

Congrats to Honda: they've had a better product than Toyota for years (same quality, much better handling) so its good to see the payoff!
