Hot News: Lotus Esprit Delayed
Lotus won’t replace the Esprit until early 2011, company boss Mike Kimberley has said. The British supercar is being totally redesigned after Lotus put it on the back burner to fast-track the new Lotus Evora.

Now there are hints that the range-topping Esprit could be offered as a hybrid, possibly using a mix of Lotus and Toyota technology.

Kimberley has said he wants to offer “guilt-free, high performance motoring” and admits the company is “working on something”.

Hybrid and lotus don't belong in the same sentence. Lotus should target NSX, LF-A, GTR. Not run after Ferraris, Lambos, etc. if it wants to really compete and turn a profit.

Lotus should have two versions a Hybrid and a proper petrol engine. The Espirit should be well thought out so it should be given the time to layout the direction they want this car to go.

You don't think that hybrids can compete with gas motors? Check out PML's hybrid mini cooper with 640bhp! And yes it would be a mistake if they used Toyota's hybrid system! They may as well buy a Prius with 0-60 times of 20 seconds! LOL If they had to go with a gas motor I believe Honda makes higher performance motors.

I'm sorry, but Hyrbrids and the batteries they use are SO contradictory to the lighter is better mantra of Lotus.

I'd be interested in what they come up with, but I;d be shocked if it involved heavy batteries.
