Hot News: More Trouble for Ford and GM
Ford has announced that it is further reducing production of large SUVs and pick up trucks at its American plants as demand dwindles in the face of soaring fuel prices.

GM has also admitted that it will be extending the production life of its “full-size” pick-up and SUV platform, and it is also seriously considering the future of the Hummer brand.

Ford will delay the introduction of the revised 2009 F-150 to ensure it doesn’t become overwhelmed by stocks of the unsold current version. Company bosses in the US have also confirmed that more European models will be brought to America, potentially good news for plants and workers on this side of the Atlantic.

How is this more trouble? GM and Ford are BOTH taking strides to reduce inventory on slower selling vehicles. Not only that but Ford is talking about its soon to be imported subcompact and adding shifts to its Focus plant to increase production.

Lets get the headline right next time instead of trying to be sensational guys.

Since the the trucks and SUV's were the largest profit makers for these companies, this isn't good news. At least they are adjust to the market, but they are slow.

First of all, there is no shortage of oil. We just have to thank the american oil cartel for raising/speculating oil price into unrealistic level.

Their greed are killing the US and consequently the world economy. This is going to be the worst ever economic downturn. brace yourselves gents. Start selling of all your V12, V10 and V8's.

Start walking

Sometimes the bridge has to be out before one realizes that taking the Ferry works too.

The moves they are making are the ones the mainstream press and most customers have been saying they should do for years. Bring more of the European cars here already.

For years the automakers have said "poo poo, that wont work. Americans want more Excursions. Not fine small cars".

Mini Coopers are selling like wildfire even though they command a pretty penny. I guess all small cars don't have to be cheap shidboxes after all.

I do not hope they fail but I think they deserve this. How short sighted can you be? You see the price of gas going up. Also, it irritated me they did not care about the effects of flooding the market with gas guzzling vehicles because they were so greedy with the huge mark ups on trucks converted to marked up and overpriced SUVs.

GM and Ford make very good cars that they sell overseas. They do not bring them here. I think now they will start. Again, I think they are not proactive but too reactive.

Any one who actualy knowa American brands wont call them "short sighted" They have more hybrid models on the market than anyone from fords escape to GM's new malibu which won north american car of the year among other praises to yes even some of the worlds only hybrid large suv's. Yes trucks are tanking but do you see pepole are saying lexus or toyota large trucks or nissan's titain and the suv based on it shor sighted?
no! They all beted (the whole industry) that gas would stay somwhere viable to support truck sales.

If you were selling eggs , would you limit them to two eggs per person becuse they can raise your choelesterol? No , because egg farmers are trying to sell eggs , the more the better. Same thing goes with selling trucks and SUV's . Why did Toyota bet the farm that on the new Tundra? More profitable than selling Corrolas.

the domestics already have chassis designs that can handle the HD market. they may have to adjust the drivetrains. toyota is going to have to come up with a new chassis and drivtrain in a shrinking market.
