Hummer - Going once, Going twice, Sold!
In a recent article documented by Reuters, Chief Executive Rick Wagoner has announced that there are a number of interested buyers for the GM owned marque, Hummer.

"We have some interested buyers, and I can't tell you anything beyond that right now, but we are moving as fast as we can."

Wagoner also states that the marque Saab will not be sold anytime soon.

"Saab has been a critical part of our European portfolio and has the potential to be quite a good money-maker for us.”

GM recently announcing the move to reduce costs by $10 billion, making the question arise as to wether any other GM owned marques will be sold.

With auto sales at a 15 year low, GM is set to offer range wide buyer incentives to maintain sales and counteract this problem.

"What we saw last month is that while consumers are not particularly active, if you offer something you can keep sales moving."

As the month comes to a close, it will be interesting to see the sales figures for manufacturers and the strategies implemented to combat this market inactivity.

Will Tata continue their shopping spree to become the new owners of Hummer?

I really don't think there is a market right now for Hummer. Maybe in a few years when the economy is better.

Hummer really created themselves with a negative reputation as far as fuel consumption, so if whoever buys them wants to make any profit from them, they need to flip that, and soon.

Hummer's image is tough and rugged and able to do things offroad that almost no other vehicle can do. The whole 'fuel hungry monster' image was created by environmental nuts who wanted a poster child to rally against. The H2 is more capable or even with in offroad capability than pretty much any other fullsize SUV. Does it lack some on road manners or fuel economy, sure but to do what it does offroad it has to sacrifice something.

Hummer bashing got old a long time ago. Lets move on.

I did not know Wagoner was looking for a second job as a stand-up comedian. He is hilarious !

It would be interesting if GM, could instead of selling the Hummer brand, could re-make Hummer into a direct competitor to the Land Cruiser/LX570, Range Rover...luxury SUVs. I want GM to redesign the Hummer brand to be a stately, capably vehicle line that's not only know for dirt-digging and rock climbing, but also for supreme comfort and amenities not offered by any other GM brand.

OK...I don't want GM to just sell Hummer. I'd rather they mothball the brand (like Cunningham) until a stronger market for it re-opens.

I agree...if GM could position Hummer as a Range Rover competitor, a luxury car for the person who wants to seem rugged (or maybe even take it offroad), it could work as a lower-volume brand. The quality would have to go way up though.

If GM sells Hummer it will be a big mistake and will show a lack of commitment in GM to create and produce quality tough 4x4 trucks and parts.
