Hybrids have received many accolades and criticisms since their inception, rarely has there been so much debate on the real facts. In researching sales figures I came across these sales figures concerning Hybrids from a variety of resources.

General Comments:

2000-2005 Hybrids sales have risen annually from 10,000 units to almost 206,000 units
Hybrid sales represent only 1.2 % of the total market sales for 2005
2010 Hybrid sales are estimated to increase to 10% of the market total if gas prices remain high.

The first 7 months of 2005 vs 2006 in sales:

Toyota:

Lexus RX400h sales are down 46.81% for the year
Lexus GS450h was released in May and has decreased every month since launch date
The Camry Hybrid was released in May and is on a strong increase each month
Prius sales are down 5.92% for the year.
Prius accounted for 52% of all hybrid sales
Highlander Hybrid sales are holding even at just under 3,000 a month

Honda:
Civic Hybrid sales are up 23.18% for the year
Accord Hybrid sales are down 59.76% for the year
Insight sales are up 59.34% (currently 83 units a month avg.)

Ford:
Escape/Mariner Hybrid sales are holding at around 2000 units a month

Conclusions:

Toyota:
Over ½ of all Hybrid sales are of one model (Prius)
Camry Hybrid sales are on track to outpace the Prius by the end of the year
Only the Camry Hybrid is on a sales increase for the year for Toyota.
Every Lexus Hybrid model sales are on the decline

Honda:
Insight sales are on the increase but still under 85 units a month
Civic Hybrid sales are up about the same number Prius sales are down.
Accord Hybrid sales are flat at 500 units per month vs. the Camry at 5000 units in July
