A typo, obviously it's Hyundai. Don't have to be pedantic. Additionally it's typed correctly in the first sentence of the article.

Not suprising, Hyundai/kia may lack a little in the refinement department but they offer many affordable small, fuel efficient, well built cars and they'll continue to thrive.

That is what I've been talking about. Some of you fanboys make fun of Kia or Hyundai but look at what has happened. They will continue to grow and has obviously been doing that under the radar. With the Genesis it should boost up their sales a little bit.

If you combine Kia and Hyundai sales, shouldn't you also combine Nissan/Renault? Then Kia/Hyundai is back in 6th place.

That is what makes this interesting. Hyundai and Kia are still two seperate companies reporting sales seperatly. So if you report them as one company then you have to report Renault and Nissan together which makes them the 4th largest auto company in the world.

^number 1 at what, explain please...

And if you look at Honda, Honda makes bikes, lawnmowers, boats, even mundane kitchen items...now that is being number 1. And everything they make is quality. Everything Hyundai makes is not. Being number 1 at what you do is the Honda way. As a matter of fact, Honda's engines are gems, and GM had used them as a "mark of excellence". So don't you guys down Honda, because when it all comes down to it. If somebody were to give you a car, would you prefer a a Honda Accord (or a TSX) or a new Hyundai Sonata? Would prefer a used S2000 to a same year used Tiburon? We know the answer...Auto001.

Acura RL is number one in sales ... yeah, right!

Sales the most != number one.
RL is a failure in sales, but it succeeds elsewhere. As a first gen SH-AWD (was, and may still is the most advanced AWD system) it serves as a test bed for the rest of Honda/Acura products (MDX, RDX, next gen TL, NSX) . Giving its complexity yet top notch reliability. I think it served its purpose well. It fails because of weak marking, not because of the built quality/reliability. (When was the last time you saw a RL commercial?) If Merc stick a 3 star badge on the RL, it will sale like hot cake.

And I think you won’t argue that Honda is one of the best when it comes to engineering. The vision of Honda is way above and beyond a simple automaker. Being a MUCH smaller company than any other asian car companies (Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, Mitsubishi), they have the courage of taking on some of the most advanced projects, hybrid (way before toyota, though not as complete) hydrogen fuel cell, robot, jets, medical equipments, just to name a few.

We are talking cars not scooters ...... I looked at both Accord and the Sonata ....... I bought the Sonata. And to compare an S2000 and a Tiburon is ridiculous, 2 totally different cars, style and pricing.
You do not have to be good at everything to make a difference. Hyundai has an entire heavy industry division that builds, ships, construction equipment, electro systems, I even read were they are the largest marine diesel engine maker in the world. Nothing about kitchen items though.

IS3andMe- Your point? Hyundai makes cruise ships and oil tanker, construction equipment and much much more. These are HUGE corporations that are well diversified.

They are doing well.
And I wouldn't be surprised if they were one of only 3 makers on that list who are profitable right now (Toyota and VW being #1 and #2 in that department).

Auto-001, I like the Refinement they have now with that touch of crudeness thyey still have. I as a Hyundai Driver, would like to see then bring over that 5 door i-20 they are testing in Europe right now as an Accent for the NA Market. Bring that CRD-i Accent Diesel they sell in Europe over. Get those Accent and Elantra Hybrids built for North American Consumption. They should build them in the US to keep them affordable as well. I also hope they get a 5 speed tranny for the Accent.

Thats Auto Tranny by the way. Also, the crudeness is fun in the small Hyundais for young people like to drive. New Toyotas are even more crude, especially with the engine noise in the Yaris. 80MPH in a Yaris is 3750 RPM when in the New Accent its 3150 RPM. Plus the Yaris is not as fun to drive as an Accent. The Honda Fit is about just as fun, but the over refinement in the Fit makes it about. Hyundais newer smaller cars are capturing what the old school 75-95 Corolla, and Civics did. Bread and butter basic small cars that sipped gas, were fun to drive, economical to purchase, and had reliable little powertrains. No frills unless you tune them. We can get into an arguement here, but I see the Yaris is an inferior car to the Accent. Due to the fact, that it is smaller and costs more just becuase it has a Toyota badge on it. Also, to get a Fit, not many 25 year olds who make less than lets say $28,000 year can afford one and not eat "poor food." With their crazy $400 a month car payments just for a B-segment car. The Accent and Rio capture that now. Good cars that a 25 year old can own, and can still live somewhat comfortably with a 25 year olds job.
