Hyundai Genesis Coupe official images
We already saw a sneak peek of the new Genesis coupe back in November when the car was caught at a market research venue alongside the Ford Mustang. Hyundai hopes the new Genesis coupe will provide performance and looks to compete with the famous pony car, and on paper it looks like a close fight. These latest images give us details and angles not seen before.

The power source for the Tiburon replacement is still up in the air, but speculation runs from a 2.0L turbocharged mill for the base model - to start under $20,000 - to a 300hp 3.8L V6 mid-range variant to a range-topping ‘Tau’ V8 producing as much as 380hp. Optional accoutrement are rumored to include a limited slip differential and Brembo brakes.

I see tons of Infiniti and Lexus IS influence in this ride....but not adpated well... i.e., the trunk line that meets the side body line at a weird spot (the line right above the tail lights in the 3/4 rear pics)

All in all, decent, but if I were to ever sit in one I would probably get the feeling I was riding in a car that has cardboard as it's underpinnings, like other Hyundais I have sat in (and this is after their products got a huge shot in the arm in the quality department).

They stil feel cheap to me, but I would love to be proven wrong on this ride. Could be a hit for them.

I agree. It seems they did the usual Hyundai style morphing.

Very nice! That unique dip on the side window gives it a distinct character.

That just doesn't look good. You think with all of the copying Hyundai does, they would pick up a few design styling techniques of their own, but no. They come out with this grotesque vehicle. Those rear windows are awful. Why do they dip down? It doesn't look good at all.

If you think a G37 looks like a 5 series than you must think an Escalade looks like a Cayanne.

Man do they really think they're gonna sell these cars? Hyundai stick to what you know. And can someone please tell the folks at Hyundai to stop copying other manufacturer's looks to much like Nissan Altima Coupe n Infiniti G37...my gosh at least be original.

Tonee...

Uh...200hp, RWD turbo 4 'entry level' starting in the low 20's with a 300hp V6 RWD in the mid to upper 20's....

Yeah...no one wants that.

!?!?!?

Maybe a minor threat to the G37, mustang, rx-8 and 350Z but certainly not a threat the SL and the Jag Xk.
As for the XLR, what can threaten a car that already doesnt sell ?

Still avoiding the thread where the IS-F got its ass kicked by the M3.

You, silver1, MichealTaylor, autopro, talked to so much smack.

That car looks pretty good to me. Grille could have been better. Roofline infact nearly whole rear 3/4 look like infiniti G37.

"from a 2.0L turbocharged mill for the base model - to start under $20,000 - to a 300hp 3.8L V6 mid-range variant to a range-topping ‘Tau’ V8 producing as much as 380hp"

2.0T starting under 20K would be great, even the 300BHP V6 mentioned above would be great in this car. But i don't see Hyundai putting V8 in it as the car looks too small for it and also there won't be many buyers of V8 Hyundai Coupe i think.

But anyway nice job Hyundai.
Making these many new engine is in itself is great job.
