Hyundai Genesis to be imported in China next year, priced at $53,200
Shanghai. September 18 (Gasgoo.com) - Hyundai Motor Group (China) plans to import the latest luxury sedan Genesis and the fifth-generation coupe to the Chinese market next year, state media Nanfang Daily reported yesterday.

Positioned between Hyundai Equus (called Centennial overseas) and Yazun (Azera), the 3.3L-3.8L Genesis will compete with Lexus ES, BMW 5-series and Benz-E series. This model is priced around 400,000 yuan (US$53,200).

For a Hyundai it seems a bit expensive to successfully compete with the marques mentioned.

I thought the price would have been the motivating factor for buyers?

I think that price will have to come down a bit when it hits US shores.

they have been saying under 30,000 for the us, so price shouldnt be a problem. and a base of 53,000 isnt even logical thats more money than 535i, or e350. im going to assume it will start at around 27 or 28 and go up

It's the Chinese price conversion.

not to be rude what does that have to do with my comment. my post was in resonse to the first poster, stating that its not logical that this is how much the US genesis will cost, because that puts it above, the 5 and e class the most expensive in the class. i even put my estimate of the us price......

Thats the price in China. The other cars listed are much more expensive in China than in North America.
Why would they say it will compete against them anyway? Totally different level of automobiles.

What happened to the words that this will cost in the $30k? If the V6 cost this much, $53k, then how much will the V8 cost? It will definitely not compete in this case.

David989,
You will live to eat your words. The Genesis will be a smash hit all over the world. Incredible value and performance, and quality won't be bad either.
I was given the Lexus ES350 as a loaner two weeks ago and the car was almost undrivable. Pathetic car, unless you're 93 and hate to drive. Absolutely no competition with the Genesis, sight unseen.

Well, you've got part of it right. Instead of Camry, insert Sonata and you've got it.

Sorry FWD Camry and Lexus fans..]
The Genesis is RWD and will blow the FWD entry-level luxury cars off the road.

Lol! Not a fan per se of this but the nay sayers here ALL sound EXACTLY the same as when that new upscale Toyota brand was trying to break into the luxury market and compete with BMW and MB. Never!

Are they serious? No person it their right mind would spend $53K on a Hyundai when they can use that mula for a Benz or Bimmer. I really dont think this car will sell well but hey Hyundai is being optimistic about it. In my opinion and I'm sure many others this is not work for them!

I don't think alot of people understand chinese pricing on cars. You think dealers mark up new cars that are going to sell big time when they hit the market (everyone remember seeing the PT cruiser going for 5 to 10 grand over its asking price when it hit the market). Well imagine that being put into the line cost of the vehicle before it hits dealerships. And that's how chinese cars are sold.

I also think it might be because the South Koreans and the Chinese are not best friends and the Japanese aren't friends with any of them either...and vice versa.

Remember this is coming from the country that is going to sell the LF-A for $264,700.00

http://www.gasgoo.com/autobiz/3128/Lexus-LF-A-to-be-sold-at-264-700-in-China.html

So the Hyundai Genesis at $54,000.00 is a steal.
