Hyundai Tiburon to be replaced by RWD coupe in ‘09
The replacement for Hyundai’s FWD Tiburon sports coupe will feature a RWD layout when it arrives in early 2009. The new coupe will be the second model to be based on Hyundai’s new RWD architecture, the first being the Genesis sedan that’s expected to go on sale by mid-next year.
A spokesman has revealed to reporters that “there will be a coupe off the Genesis,” and that it will arrive “six months to a year after Genesis as the replacement for the Tiburon.” Hyundai has previously announced that the Genesis sedan would be the first of several new models to based on its new RWD platform.

rear wheel drive is meaningless unless the car is balanced and has a dam good stability control program. People who would buy a car like this typically do not know how to handle a car properly here in America.

I'm assuming the price will skyrocket or this will be a completely new sports coupe and will have nothing to do with the Tiburon. I really don't see a RWD selling for less than 20K CDN.
Plus, if they wanna pin it up against the Infiniti G, they would need to skyrocket the price to get anyone considering an Infiniti to buy this car.

I disagree with you on this one zorbeeze.
Hyundai didn't skyrocket the price when it went after Lexus with the Veracruz. Where the Lexus starts at 37,000 and the Hyundai starts at 26,000. It's even cheaper than the Mazda CX-9 but with more options.
I don't envision them doing anything different than what they have been doing the past couple years with their business concept. Design a good product, with a great warranty for less than everyone else.
And from what I understand, the Koreans are bypassing the Japanese and aiming squarly at the Germans. So expect to see the cars compared to 3, 5 and 7 series(4,6,8 for all you audi fans...and I refuse to wright down all MB's crazy numbers and letters). The Genesis sedan has already started being compared to the 5 series and it isn't even on the road yet. The cars might not be as good at handling as the germans but I don't think Hyundai has had their heads in a hole for the past two decades. They wouldn't put their product up against the industry standard if they didn't think they had a comparable product.
So I think Lexus and Infiniti need to be worried. If Hyundai develops it's sports coupe and sedans using it's current business practices they may just land a strong right hook across the Japanese contenders.
Heck I'd even raise it to the next level...why buy an overpriced underpowered 528 or 535 (before any bmw owners get angry I used to own a 3 series) when you can get a Hyundai Genesis with a V8 with "well over 300" (motor trend may issue...I think) for 15-20 grand less.
If Hyundai is trying to undercut the Germans by 20 grand I think they can handle undercutting the Japanese by 10 grand.

For the last time, the Veracruz is NOT in the same category as any Lexus or Infinity. This new so called Tiburon will never be compared to an Infiniti G.
And Hyundai has always tried to put their cars up against the industry standard and has always failed.

Why is there so much hatred towards the Koreans on this site. They should be congratulated. These were the same arguments used against the Japanese just a couple decades ago and I'm pretty sure Lexus and Infiniti have come quite a long way...now that they are being compared to BMW, MB and AUDI. I may be old but I remember when the Japanese had the "audacity" to say they could compare their cars to the Germans. And look at the conversations on this as well as other sites today.
To say the Veracruz is NOT in the same category as the Lexus RX350 must mean the the people from MOTOR TREND magazine (July 2007) don't know the first thing about cars.
Finally, the Industry standard for most cars is BMW. Hands down. Any magazine will tell you that. Whether it deserves it or not is not the discussion on the table. But this IS the first time Hyundai has put it's product up against industry standard. It never tried to compare it's products to BMW before...that wasn't it's market. It compared it's product to the Japanese.
