Hyundai confirms luxury car for U.S. in 2008
We’re just wondering what’s going to happen to cheap reliable cars in the next few years? Hopefully, these new models from the Korean auto makers will still remain affordable. Anyway, Automotive News reports that Hyundai has confirmed that it is planning a luxury car for the United States set to debut in 2008, which will sit right above the Hyundai Azera. Code-named BH, the rear-wheel drive car will be built in South Korea and will have a V8 engine.

The Huyndai Concept Genesis which is headed for the New York Auto Show (which we will be covering live, so make sure you join us April 4th - April 5th), could be the basis for the 2008 luxury model. Check out sketch of the Huyndai Concept Genesis below.

This seems like the rumored 'Equus' car from months ago. A Hyundai-sourced RWD V8 vehicle will create deep ripples in the US market. If its as good as or better than the Sonata and Azera, all cars in the same price points will suffer declining sales.

I think the biggest question is what will it be badged as? Certainly Hyundai recognizes that they cannot sell a luxury car with attributes like real wood trim under the same brand that primarily sells cars wit fake wood trim...

I'm glad that Hyundai is going forth with a luxury car. I give them credit as in the last few years their sales have went up dramatically. Their doing what Toyota did with Lexus. It all takes money and the right materials to capture someone's attention.

I don't see them forming a new brand image yet but I think with a luxury car being built they will have a good platform for future models to come. Give credit where credit is due and that's what I'm doing with Hyundai. I'd never buy one but I respect them as good eco cars very good value for money as well as having good coverage.

Whether you guys agree with me or not I think Hyundai will continue to grow and with some good business/finance management as well as good marketing anything is possible.

May I also add that Hyundai currently has two luxury cars already in it's lineup. The Centennial(Korean Domestic Market), Grandeur(US:Azera), and the Sonata is a borderline car with some luxury amenities.

For the money you pay you do get well rouded luxury. It's just not at the level of a Lexus, Acura, or Infiniti.

LOL.

I don't think they'd get much farther than the Toyota Avalon in terms of prestige. At absolute BEST, the Lexus ES350.

Come on....you got to be kidding right? comparing the Hyundai with Lexus, Acura and Infiniti. I don't think so; not yet.

Lexus is definitely on par with the like of BMW, Audi and MB. Toyota/Lexus quality and realibility way superior to Hyundai brand.

Yes I do gave them credit for trying, but right now you're comparing it to Lexus, Acura and Infiniti. Kia/Hyundai is nowhere near the Lexus, Acura and Infiniti.

If you say Hyundai is just good as Lexus, Acura and Infiniti. Than I can say it just as good as the BMW, Audi and MB. Which is "NOT TRUE" see what I mean.

Yeah sure Hyundai has improve alot but still "Nowhere" near the like of Lexus, Acura and Infiniti. For start Toyo/Lexus, Hon/Acura, Nissan/Infiniti has been around the block way longer than Kia. Has duke it out face to face with the German brand. Second the Japanese luxury brand has better quality and realibility than the Kia brand.

And you could say so what if Japanese brand been around longer? yes it does count. Just like German Heritage that many of you here use against Lexus.

Give Hyundai/KIA some time. Like with any company with proper financial management and a good business plan with top notch marketing a luxury division could be put up and people will start respecting it. Like how Lexus was made fun of being called a rebadged Toyota and etc. KIA/Hyundai will be in the same path as Toyota was with Lexus. It takes some patience so the brand and brand image is exposed to the mainstream consumers. Basically a lot of trust will have to be gained in order for people to buy a Hyundai/KIA produced luxury car, especially if it's at a price near the other targeted luxury brands.

I think their still far away from such talks.
