Anyone have the figures of how many LS400s were sold in 1989? I believe it was near 3,000.

Good for Hyundai, this is a nice car. It just has an odd position in the market.

Good direction for Hyundai. It's a good car for them. I hope they copy Lexus and boost their brand image up like how they've borrowed many ideas from their rivals in the beginning. OF COURSE WITH MARKETING MUCH CAN HAPPEN!

The Acura RL should be scared. Depending on the quality of the interior and "ride feel", this car is definitely a threat to the "near luxury" models like the Lexus ES and Acura TL/RL. If Hyundai is smart enough to give a generous warranty with full service, it'll fly off the lots. The first adopters will be mostly Korean American families looking for a more affordable alternative to the GS or more luxurious Acura.

spot on.
i think the target is more of RL than TL. since TL is more sport oriented and has a firm ride/smaller size. (at least i won't pounder between a Genesis and a TL/TL-s).
for those who wants a nice ride/comfort ride. Genesis is a great alternative. I suppose the main targets (as far the first generation Gensis goes) are the toyota avalon. Nissan Maxima, Lexus ES, chrysler 300c, Lincoln MKZ, Cadillac STS. it has the potential to affect Lexus S350, BMW 528, or E350, and may become a serious fighter in that class in two or three generation if Hyundai does it right.

in fact, i am considering getting one for my parents if Genesis lives up to my expectation.

Sadly to say the TL is the better car. I think it's built better as well. The Type S interior is put together and is very solid. The RL I found the panels and woodgrain to make crack noises quite a bit when pressing on it. The only Acura sedan I would buy is the TL. Under-stated luxury car. The interior's look suit a car in a higher price range. IMO. I like it better than the Infiniti G interior.

80 Million is no small change to drop on a vehicle launch. I've seen the Genesis up close and in person and it definitely has the luxury ambiance. If the marketing is done right it should do well.

quizz,
Koreans actually drive Korean cars? Always thought it was strictly an import product for Americans.

Silly me, thinking that only German cars were allowed to be sold in Korea.
