Hyundai to halt U.S. production for 10 days in Q4
Hyundai Motor Co said on Wednesday it plans to halt production at its U.S. plant for 10 days during the fourth quarter amid a slowdown in U.S. sales due to weakness in the world's top economy.
Hyundai, the world's No. 6 auto maker by sales volume along with its affiliate Kia Motors Corp <000270.KS>, said its Alabama factory will be shut down for three days in October and a combined seven days in November and December.
"While we are encouraged with the strong sales of the Santa Fe, Sonata sales are down slightly," said John Kalson, production vice president at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama LLC, in a statement.
The Santa Fe is Hyundai's flagship sports utility vehicle and the Sonata is a mid-sized sedan.

Why are you such a Hyundai-hater? Are you just "scared" that they will topple ToyLex? Their cars are completely inoffensive.

Nope, here are the reasons I hate them:
1. They compare their un-prestigious cars to cars that have worked for years building a name for themselves. Take for example the Sonata and 528i. They compared those two and made it seem like the Sonata was better. Take a look on the inside of the car. It's crap. They also compared an Azera to an LS 460. Once again, less advanced and a lot more ugly. They just make me mad when they consider themselves more than an affordable puddle jumper. They also compared the Santa Fe to a Landrover LR3 and the Veracruz to an RX.
2. They aren't good cars. Sure, they MIGHT have changed, but the Hyundai I've always know has been a car that lasts a few thousand miles and then it's off to the shop they go. They claim to have changed, but there are no real facts to their long-term success.
3. They can't compare, even to the cars in their class. Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc. all have navigation systems available, some even have SmartKey available. Hyundai hasn't even taken the time to develop a navigation system. I don't know about you, but to me, that seems like they're not in the business for customer satisfaction.
4. People buy them, then realize the mistake they made. People see their advertisements: long warranty, decent powered engines, and supposed good reliability. After a year or two of owning it, they trade it in for a new or even used car. All of the used car lots around where I live are packed full of used Sonatas, Accents, Elantras, and Santa Fes. So add the fact that they're deceiving to the list.
Basically to sum it up, I hate Hyundai because they toot their own horn. I don't appreciate arrogance, especially when they're wrong and hurt other people financially because of it.

By the way, everyone I know who owns a Hyundai hates it. I know a girl who has a brand new Sonata and she said after a month the fun wore off and she hates it now. She said there's no satisfaction in owning a Hyundai and I have to say that I agree.

You probably inculcated so much Anti-Hyundai rhetoric into her impressionable brain that she was left with no choice but to jump on your (unsubstantiated) bandwagon.

No, I actually just met her. I saw her car and said "You drive a Hyundai?!" and she said, "Don't make fun of me. I don't even like it anymore." So no, I didn't implant my Anti-Hyundai facts into her brains, she saw the car for what it was herself.

"They compare their un-prestigious cars to cars that have worked for years building a name for themselves."
If you take that seriously... and take offense to it... well, the joke's on you.
"They aren't good cars."
Guess who's creeping up to Toyota in the JD Power rankings? Yup, the round "H."
"They can't compare, even to the cars in their class."
Let's just say I disagree. The only I find inherently uninteresting is the Sonata; the Santa Fe, Azera and Veracruz are appealing. If you think the re-bodied Highlander that the RX is deserves more respect than the ground-up Veracruz... well, it doesn't. This is coming from an RX330 owner. It's not an amazing car. Neither is the Veracruz- but it's a better value.
"People buy them, then realize the mistake they made."
Why are they so high in consumer satisfaction?
Look, I'm no Hyundai-lover, but give respect where respect is due.

S4, I do take offense to that. Hypothetically, how would you feel if they compared their Tiburon to an S4 because it has the same amount of power for less than half the price? You know as well as I do that the S4 is more than power, just like the LS is more than parking itself. The S4 is also about performance and luxury. The Tiburon would probably roll if you tried to go around a hairpin curve at a high speed and don't even get me started on the appearance of the interior. If the joke's on me, that's fine. I won't ever appreciate anything Hyundai has if they compare themselves to cars that are out of their league. They need to come to terms that they aren't a luxury/sport brand.

Toyota and Honda have alot to worry about...Hyundai is nipping at their heels. I'm a loyal Honda Accord
owner and I've driven the Sonata and I'm very impressed.Style wise the new Honda accord is a big improvement only because Honda was losing sales to Hyundai. I just saw the 2008 Accord at the dealer AKA "stealer" right next to the 2007 model and the previous model looked like a piece of shit!!!

I agree with Neutral - Hyundai/Kia has spent and continues to spend the big $$$ to develop and build quality vehicles. Every import automaker stumbles into the American market. I can remember the early 70's when "Made in Japan outta old beer cans" was the statement most people made after a Honda, Toyota, or Datsun past by on the street. There's quality behind that Hyundai oval - it takes time, effort, and piles of money to make a good car, a very good car - like the Sonata - takes a little more! Is that they are investing resources into employing Americans with the
USA plant. I really love my Sonata!

lexus kid -
Hyundai has a 10 yr / 100k mile warranty; you think they will put a warranty like that on something that's going to break every 3,000 miles? They'd be out of business.
While their vehicles are not a match for the interior quality and craftsman ship of a Lexus or other highline car, they are worth taking a look at. Especially when you look at the value to features ratio; example - my sisters Hyundai Azera has a rear automatic sunshade, where as my vehicle does not. My other sisters Hyundai Sonata plays mp3s, where as my car does not.
I agree that they are not a luxury brand (yet.. but the new RWD sedan looks pretty darn nice!), but you're an ignorant fool if you say the car sucks simply because of the brand name. As for your friend, if she wanted a car she wouldn't be bored with she should have bought a sports car, not a camry/accord competitor. Duh.
Also, the IS250/350 rear seat is too small.

LOL! great points, and fully VALID reasons to hate them. reminds me of why i NEVER had very much respect for audi.
younger folk may not be aware, but in the late 1970s/early '80s, audi WAS DOING THE VERY SAME THING!
and not even on mechanicals, but mere dimensions! such as, "larger trunk than a continental!" "more rear seat leg room than a caddy coupe deville!" and on and on!
such RIDICULOUS comparisons. i simply DETESTED those ads. and NEVER had any respect for audis ever since.

also not widely known to most youngsters:
the german big 3 were NOT always LUXURY cars. up thru roughly the same time period, bmw and mb were sorta in the pontiac and buick class. (vw was the 'chevy of europe' but even cheaper.) decidedly LESS CAR than the caddys and lincolns of that era.
when the dollar declined sharply against the german mark, the cars were difficult to sell at a profit here. so they were kicked upmarket, to become "sport luxury" and luxury cars in order to command the PREMIUM PRICES necessary to continue exporting.
eventually, enuff content and engineering was added to justify the higher prices.
but initially, it was mainly the mystique of being "expensive imports" and plain marketing that justified the upgraded status and OVERPRICING.
some here claim lexus succeeds MERELY on marketing magic. well, so did "german luxury" initially.
lexus at least has ALWAYS had the CONTENT and state of the art ENGINEERING to justify their luxury status.

But where are they now? Don't live in the past. Cadillac is playing catch-up. Lincoln is... not even doing anything.
Mercedes-Benz has in fact always made luxury cars, and BMW, mostly. Audi has made anything from mid-level (DKW, Wanderer, etc) to Rolls-Royce-esque (Horch). Right now they're in between. I think it would be interesting if they brought the Horch name back, à la Maybach but better. The problem? Bentley. It won't happen.
"lexus at least has ALWAYS had the CONTENT and state of the art ENGINEERING to justify their luxury status."
Since when does Lexus's first car--the ES250--merit praise for its high-engineering? More than any ES model to date, it was a completely re-badged Camry.
The random CAPITALIZATION in your posts is starting to annoy me.
