Hyundai to offer new 2.4L GDI engine in next Sonata sedan

Hyundai is slowly introducing some good technology not typyically seen in their previous cars. They are stepping out of the box and offering technology and an affordable price. I can't hate on them for trying. A for effort and B+ for execution on their latest luxury cars the Equus and Genesis Sedan. We're years away from a respectable Hyundai but never say never because KIA and Hyundai are capturing market share without anyone noticing.

I am not a total fan of GDI, especially one that is as close to Mitsubishi-technology as Hyundai's undoubtedly is. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Mitsubishi, in fact, I own one, but Mitsu's earlier GDIs were a disaster. Once bitten, twice shy. That said though, I would like to think that Mitsu should drop a light pressure turbo on it and get an extra 50hp or so to compensate for the lack of the extra 2 cylinders.

Tango it might have been in Mitsu cars, but mostly everything the Turbos the GDI that Mitsu has had in their products over the last 10-15 was originally developed by Hyundai. Mitsu tests out our products for us to work out any kinks, and then when the major kinks are worked out we get to have it.

Then we put it in KIAs usually to work out the Minor kinks. When no Kinks exist, then it goes in Hyundais. Most of these DI Engines are currently in Euro KIAs right now, getting the kinks worked out before they even see US Hyundai dealer lots.

BTW, the Optima will get the 280 HP V6,so if you want a V6 D-seg from our company consider KIA, or the Sonata Touring Wagon.

Notice that unlike the gasoline ones, this diesel model has dual mufflers.

Are we sure this isn't an article about BMW? Sure looks like one.

The Mercedes E320 Bluetec has dual mufflers, they just point down and aren't chrome so you don't see them.



Variable Valve timing, must be another Korean innovation. I'm surprised they don't swoon over how Hyundai includes a spare tire in their car. Magnificent, truly magnificent.

Joe, my article about the Sonata Coupe is about to drop. When it does Check it out. I bet Mercury wouldnt dare make a Cougar like that.
