IFR Aspid: 0-62 in 2.8 secs with 49mpg
IFR Automotive, an award-winning Spanish automotive design and technology company has unveiled their new Aspid ‘luxury’ sportscar at the British International Motor Show. The 700kg lightweight Aspid features fuel and CO2 saving technologies throughout the chassis, suspension, brakes and electrical system.

Power comes from a 2.0 liter supercharged engine that produces a total of 400-hp. That gives the Aspid the ability to go from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and 0-100mph in 5.9 seconds. A 270-hp version is also available which...

mpg sounds fishy, no matter how light a 400 horsepower 2.0 liter won't get you 4.8 or 5.5 liters per 100 km. Even diesels of that displacement barely get these figures (they do power heavier vehicles)

Nice looking vehicle, but does the nose have to extend so far out?

First, I really think this thing is hideous. But that's just my 2cents. Flame Suit On.

Second: those numbers look suspect.

If it were a 2.0L I4 that was turbocharged then maybe I could believe it. They could have tall gearing, run high boost (and therefore high load), run a Miller cycle, and essentially use the turbo as a waste heat recovery device. Coupled with a low coefficient of drag and a low weight, 45mpg would be doable.

With a supercharger? No way. Too much loss to parasitic drag.

To achieve 400hp from that small of an engine they are going to need a mix of aggressive boost, timing, and a high rpm. In order to get those fuel economy numbers (running miller cycle) they need continuously variable valve timing on both the intake and the exhaust (doubt they have the $ for that sort of tech).

If they really wanted to save weight, they missed an obvious piece: the exhaust. Side mount or have it exit through the top of the hood.

Eh, this whole thing just smells bad. Generally I try to post useful stuff, but companies like this that make outrageous claims just aggravate me. End of rant.
