INFINITI G37 Convertible - First Official Photos

Notice that the second photo has text in it that says "hear the live performance of 7th gear". This indicates to me that the new G convertible will get a 7 speed tranny. Sweet!

I hate all convertibles for the following reasons:

1) It is inevitable that a parked convertible will eventually get caught in the rain and the interior will get soaked (been there, done that).

2) The canvas top makes is noisy at highway speeds as it will flap in the wind.

3) A canvas top offers no protection in a rollover.

4) Lo-life vandals will inevitably slash the canvas top.

5) I once picked up a brand new convertible at the factory only to find that the auto workers had deliberately left a pair of pliers in the convertible top mechanism which tore through the canvas the first time I took the top down.

When was the last time you drove a convertible? The 1980's?

First, all new convertibles have roll-over hoops, either fixed or active.

Secondly, new canvas roof systems are extremely refined and durable.

Third, this is 2008. We have hard-top convertibles now.

Flapping canvas tops??? My mother has had convertibles for the last decade, and none of them ever had a flapping top. And if you're worried about the interior, put the roof up! You can to it remotely with the key with most nowadays...and no vandal has ever slashed the top.

Wrong. All EUROPEAN convertibles have roll-over hoops, either fixed or active. In typical fashion, American and Japanese makes are still behind the curve with regard to safety. Unlike Mercedes-Benz, which invented, and made standard, active roll-over protection in 1989, MOST American/Japanese convertibles still lack active or passive roll bars.

Just look at the Ford Mustang convertible, Chevy Corvette covertible or the pre-05 Toyota Solara. Even the $65k Lexus SC430 lacks roll protection. Some, like the Nissan Z, even have faux roll-bars that aren't designed to provide any protection. These are often referred to as "sport bars" or "style bars" so as to avoid lawsuits stemming from roll-over deaths.

A few rare examples, like the Honda S2000, have legitimate passive hoops that can support the car in a rollover... unfortunately they are positioned so low that the occupants heads will be supporting the car instead of the bars...

Wether or not the new G37 convertible will have roll protection remains to be seen. However, judging from Nissan's less than stellar track record when it comes to safety innovation, I wouldn't be suprised if it didn't.

P.S. Hardtops provide little to no structural protection in a rollover. So don't be fooled into thinking that a hardtop is safe in a rollover if it doesn't have passive or active roll bars.

So, Lexus is getting rid of the SC430 and Acura has not said anything about a new CL Coupe/Vert.

Understandably, all Toyota cares about is profits and doesn't give a damn about enthusiasts. Acura has just completely lost all its performance roots and their styling looks like it was done by a robot instead of a human.

Win or lose, it looks like Infiniti is the only one to have the balls to be in the ring with BMW, Mercedes, and Audi. The G37 convertible looks really good compared to the goofy looking 3-Series with too much rear overhang.

Infinity uses Nissan engines which are best of breed from Japan. Infinity has fortunately not adopted the dreaded CVT which other Nissan brands seem to be enamored with. Infinity's interiors are among the best.
Unfortunately, I came across some sleezy dealers when shopping recently for a new car and ended up buying a nicely loaded Passat Instead of an Infinity EX35 which was on my shopping list.

I'm not sure why the convertible has sedan's rear. Other than that, this looks a lot better than 3 series convertible, which looks like a boat with the horrible flat deck in the back.

To all the good people of this site that truly love cars, I would like to apologize for the behaviour of one member that has at least 100 different profiles.

We have nailed him on the following profile names for sure: Staar, Teknik and Auto001..

He will piss his life away living for this site to defend his precious Asian Cars, while trashing the German brands.

If you see his posts on other topics, just remember he is "All about Eve" and has so many personalities that he even has trouble keeping up with them.

I think it is hilarious at how worked up he gets and signs in and out under different profile names just to try and prove his point.

Anyway, in short just beware when you see a comment deboosted or boosted by a factor of 10 within 3 to 4 minutes, because it is 99% of the time the above named profiles.

You seem to be delusional to the fact that many people don't care for BMWs, well here's the fact: there are just as many people out there who don't care for them. You may regard BMW in such high regard but for many people, my self included, wouldn't be caught dead in one. This is in part due them being overly hyped, mediocre, overpriced, and not interesting (especially their bland interiors), but is has more to do with the type of people who own them.

Many of them seem to have achieved the combination of money, attitude, self-importance, disdain and disregard for others that cannot be matched by drivers of any other marque. Take an opinion poll from many different places and you'll find this negative attitude toward BMW owners is universal, I'm not just making this up.

As BMW themselves have pointed out, they only "make" the cars, they've no control over who owns them.

imagine how desperate these people are if they had to take someone else's user name and change it a little in order to get attention or acceptance on an Internet forum. Look at the pathetic attempts of these people LE43(after EL34) or Staar(after Star) and other before them who need to attach themselves like parasites to a host in order to survive. I don't think is possible to get any lower than that. Is the Internet for God's sake...be at least original enough to choose your own user name. Just pathetic!
