INFINITI G37 and LEXUS IS250 out handle BMW 335?
In the latest post, INFINITI G37 coupe full test, edmunds.com selectively hide a critical test data, slalom, from the article and video. According to the test data, G37 posts a slalom of 71.3 mph, which puts it in the league of 2 seats sports car like Porsche.
A handful slalom test data from Edmunds.com are listed below:
Porsche Boxter 72.2 mph
INFINITI G37 71.3 mph
Porsche 911 Turbo 70.5 mph
LEXUS IS250 (X package) 70.4 mph
Porsche Cayman 70.2 mph
BMW 335i 68.4 mph
LEXUS IS350 66.8 mph
BMW 328i Convertible 66.3 mph
Is there some kind of conspiracy? Why did they avoid mentioning this outstanding achievement from the readers? Just as the case of GT-R, is NISSAN finally showing us their capability?

As I own both BMW and INFINITI, I consider myself neutral. Although I was surprised by this slalom comparison myself, I also understand some quality cannot be quantified.
Anyway, my point is, any advancement of performance/dollar ratio should be encouraged.

Interesting, but i'm still skeptical.
The G37 is still new and I haven't seen many more tests or reviews of it yet. I won't be shocked if it matches and beat the BMW in performance tests as the old generation was powerful but didn't just quite match the handling.
Even more weird is their rating of the IS250 doing better (yes it may be a manual but even still doesn't seem right)
Finally the G37 is a 2 door coupe, 335 i presume is the twin turbo coupe not the sedan as well while the IS isn't even in the league cause its a 4door, 2 door IS will only be launched in the near future. So no consistency.
So I think i'll wait for more comparo tests of the G37 vs 335i coupe to verification of which is better.
Same with the IS, more tests by other car mags/sites to confirm edmunds results.
I hope the G37 would be as good or better than the 335, G37 would be a dream considering it would way cheaper.

I knew the infiniti g37 can match the 335i, the old one was nearly as good but just lacking.
IS was a huge step forward but a comparo from more reviewers will confirm if edmunds tests are true or not.

I don't trust any of these tests as I drove a Chrysler 300 when it was first launched and that was on a special test tarck that Chrysler invited the public to test its cars on. I literally tried to roll the car over on a sharp 90-degree curve while flooring the gas pedal and the Mercedes-sourced stability control they had on had car just would not let me do it.

I'm thinking because the IS250 is the lighter of the two, (IS350) that the 328i will be quicker than the 335 and maybe the IS250. I just notice how smaller displacement engines are lighter than their faster brothers but in the slalom and handling department they usually exceed. I'd be willing to bet money that the 328i is faster through the slalom than the IS250 using the same driver. (Before anyone gets the 328i slalom numbers from the CarAndDriver comparison against the new G35.

Yeah thats the only weight difference so here it is:
3527 IS350
3455 IS250 manual
3406 328i sport manual
3605 335i sport manual
So the 335 is slower than the IS250 which is understandable, its heavier.
the 328i sport is 200 lbs lighter than the 335 which means quicker track times. I know because I own an 07' 328i Coupe. The IS250 is a little more than 100lbs lighter which mean quicker track times, which is why I think the 328i will be faster than the IS250. I got the weight from the Lexus and BMW website.
But again this is just my opinion.

Yeah, but not so much reliability issues. The more important point is that BMW did not use oil coolers with the auto tranny to keep the car at more of a constant temp. They use the oil coolers only for the manual tranny, which does not have overheating issues.

Slalom tests are VERY variable. It all depends on the weather, tires, air temperature, etc ... but most of all THE DRIVER is the critical part. This list is full of weird facts. For instance a Porsche Boxster is faster in the slalom than a Cayman S! While on a track the Cayman would outrun the Boxster.. so really I don't care about slalom tests. IT SHOWS NOTHING (apart from the driver skill and tires)
To be honest I don't care, slalom says nothing about how a car handles or feels.
I read this test and my conclusion is the same I always had about Infiniti: just not as good as BMW
But then again, the Jap costs way less and you do get better value.
"Although strong, the G37's engine just isn't in the same league as the turbo 3.0-liter in the BMW 335i. We've grown to love the VQ-Series engines and this iteration is clearly the best of the bunch. It just doesn't happen to be as impressive as its German competition in a test of straight-line speed. Still, it makes the right sounds and revs over 7,000 rpm, so it motivates the G well enough in any other contest."
My words EXACTLY
"Steering lacks positive, direct feel"
I'm sure the steering is brilliant in this car, just not as good a BMW.

I agree with this.
Driver capability and experience are crucial in determining the true capabilities of a car. A noob in a 335i will post a worse slalom time than a pro in a G37 or IS250 etc.
Edmunds in my opinion is good for getting a general feel for the car, but when it comes to acceleration and performance data, I'll trust Car and Driver, Motor Trend and Road and Track first, especially Car and Driver because they drive their cars hard. At the same time, Car and Driver is the worst source for getting an opinion on which car suits you since they're so sports biased.
Kudos to Infiniti and Lexus anyway.

Porsche comin on top doesn't surprise me. BMW getting ass spanked on almost every comparos are becoming a thing of usual these days. Soon it'll be a norm. Its just matter of time but..One thing, I did want to mention: Lexus's F-designation posibly doesn't stand for "fast" as some idiots pointed out so quickly. Rather it might acutally stand for "flagship".
Secondly, IS500 was just a name. The real deal is IS-F. Lexus will be coming out w/GS-F, IS-F coupe and posibl IS-F convertible. Also..LS-F is posible in near future.

When I was in college back in day, one of my college professor left Harvard and went to teach at another school because he sick of pathetic loser and cry baby a Harvard. Although there where some good students, there many rich snob who is dumb as well. And the only reason they got into Yales, Harvard and Printhan what the name is, because they got money, not high IQ.

What a useless conversation. Slalom tests show a potential grip in X situation at X location with X car. It should not be applied to the overall assessment of a cars handling.

Porshe is always going to be their, but the two luxury div Lexus and Infiniti are really doing their homework, these two are doing a fine job of sport driving and a nice feel of comfort and refinement at the same time, keep the products coming props to them.

If this comparison from Edmunds is such crap, then I guess the comparison done back in May between the Lexus IS350 and the BMW 335i, where the 335i beat the Lexus, is total crap then as well.

So I guess BMW is following Lexus technology by having 8 speed transmission of their own. The Lexus LS has it first and now the German want to join the eight speed transmission club.

actually, it's the IS250 they tested. sadly, this underpowered car outhandles it's much more powerful sibling. why can't lexus get power and handling in one car?
and lexus does primarily sell to older people....ES, LS and SC buyers average over 60. RX averages in the 50s too.

Lexus don't have to justify anything, they buy Lexus for the quality, luxury and soon to be high performance vehicles..
I would say the German owners justify their vehicles,by saying they have prestige or magic feel, what the heck is "magic feel",Is it a glorified word for stiffer suspension??

see...different criteria for buying a lexus vs. a bmw.
i buy for styling, handling/fun-to-drive factor, high-revving engines and quality (and, guess what, i've never had a major problem with a bmw).

enthusiastx11, actully you're wrong pals, IS for 2os to late 30s, RX for 30s to early 40s and the SC I'm not to sure. But the Lexus LS is for those in their 50s, same age as MB S-class and 7 Series and A8 buyers.
enthusiastx11, why do you hate Lexus so much? did you lost your janitorial job when Lexus open it plant where you live?

They all can produce sporting cars. Not sure why some think BMW can only make a sporting sedan, the Japanese are right behind/with them in many cases.
What the speeds don't say though is "feel". You might feel better in a slower car than in one with the top speed in the slalom.
Besides, most people dont' even DRIVE their cars like this.

E90 3 is a shame for bimmer owner. An E46 3 has way better interior in terms of design and material. E90 3, both interior and exterior, is so bad that I really feel sorry for new bimmer owner.

Lexus ALWAYS understates their 0 - 60 times by at least .5 seconds. Here are the results of the 5 Top Luxury Cars in this test which was reported in the January Issue of Car and Driver. Please note these tests were all done on the same day at about the same time and at the same altitude. The results reflect the average of 3 runs and all cars are the 2007 vintage.
Mercedes S550 5.6, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.1 (Benz show 5.4 in their specs)
BMW 750iL 5.7, 0 - 60 quarter mile in 14.2
Jag XJ Super 6.0 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.5
Lexus LS460L 6.2 0 - 60 quarter mile 14.6
Audi A8 6.8 0 - 60 quarter mile 15.2
Note that Lexus, as usual, is more than the 5.4 the manufacturer CLAIMS to get by .8 seconds.
Also note the LS430 (prior model the LS460 replaced) was rated at 295 HP and was actually 278 when Lexus corrected their rating. And there were no refunds or apologies from the so-called "quality" car company. ABC - Always Be Careful what you buy from the (REPREHENSIBLE) Toyota/Lexus people.....

Since when is handling defined by slalom numbers? There's more to handling than the slalom. People here are freaking clueless.
