The APEAL study is different from J.

D. Power’s Initial Quality Survey, which measures problems owners say they had in the three months after buying or leasing a vehicle.

The study measures how gratifying a new car or truck is to own and drive after 90 days of ownership. It measures the owners opinion of their vehicle’s styling, performance and design.

In recent years it has become increasingly difficult to find meaningful differences on the quality study because the entire industry has shown improvement.

Among all brands, Porsche finished first this year for the eighth consecutive year. The German automaker received a score of 887 on a 1,000 point scale.

Porsche finished just ahead of Jaguar, BMW and Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

Asian automakers’ brands did not perform as well as German automakers. Toyota, Honda and Nissan all finished below the industry average.
