As we've been following the German automakers over recent years, we've noticed a peculiar phenomena. All of the big marques have expanded their product offerings extensively. They've created new classes, new niches and the competition is hotter than ever.

This means that there is a lot of overlap. I mean, think of it. If you have approximately, $30,000 to $40,000 USD to spend on a sport-utility vehicle, you can choose from a plethora of options. X1, X3, Q3, Q5, GLK, soon to be GLA, ML, soon to be Macan, Tiguan and Touareg.

We know some produce standout products while others are lackluster, to say the least.

But we're a bit curious. If you had the power to CLOSE one of the German automakers, WHICH would it be and WHY?

This is a pretty important question, especially as German vehicles have become SO good that they're nearly identical in their performance and statistics. Really, we're nearly at the point of selecting vehicles solely on subjectivity and personal preference, not what is simply "the best product of the lot."

So. Who gets the heave ho?

- Audi
- BMW
- Mercedes-Benz
- Porsche
- Volkswagen
