Incredible Mercedes SLR McLaren crash in Qatar
Details are sketchy, but this terrible accident occurred sometime early June 15th morning. A 22-year old was reportedly driving, and from the size of the debris field, it's clear the car was going extremely fast when it occurred. The driver didn't make it, and there's no info on whether or not he was carrying a passenger. Read Article

I'm not surprised. Some young lad from an oil rich family probably found an open stretch of road in Qatar and went full speed. When you hit that speed it doesn't matter how well your car is built or how safe it is. No one prepares for that type of crash. Poor kid and poor car.

Sad story but I must admit I had a smirk on my face reading this title... rich bastards did nothing for that money, no sympathy here. Sorry.

Not all people from the Gulf are oil rich..Maybe in the 70's and 80's but not anymore..

I don't understand how a car can become so torn up. There doesn't seem to be anything he can hit; no trees, no walls, nothing. Well maybe there is and you can't see any of that in the pic but seriously, that crash is pretty immense. Would like to see how it all happened though.

Just because he's from Qatar, dont start hating :) and do I have to remind you all of the other " SUPER EXPENSIVE CAR CRASHED " topics? It just happens.

At high speeds, only a bit more speed translattes to a lot of extra kinetic energy. The figures are amazing:

Have a look here...

http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/carcr.html#cc1

Go to Calculation of Force on car. Next type in 1900 kgs (a rough guess as to how much the SLR would have weight with fuel and passenger onboard), then play arounf with speeds. Try 100 km/h, 200 km/h, 250/km and 300 km/h. See how at higher speeds, even a small increase in speed causes a huge increase in impact force. No wonder the car was annihilated.

On second thought, that's the way I think I'd want to check out - doing 300 Kmph in a MB SLR McLaren..
I'll put that as my final item on my "bucket list".
