Infiniti G37 Road Test: Driven by Motor Trend Mag + Car & Driver
Two of the big mags got a chance to drive the new G37.
Motor Trend: But brag they should, as not only are the brakes stellar-exhibiting excellent response and pedal feel and no fade-but so is the car as a whole. In tandem with the extra body rigidity, which is noticeably more robust from behind the wheel, the G37's reworked chassis delivers superior ride compliance, NVH isolation, and motion control compared with the G35 coupe's. Through all but the most aggressive curves, the car stays as flat as the Arizona desert. The added power from the 3.7 doesn't hit the Wow! factor, but it's certainly felt, especially when accelerating out of turns. Moreover, despite the increase in displacement, the 3.7 hasn't suffered a decrease in refinement-visiting the redline is a smooth and euphonic exercise.

Actually they already compared it and the 335 couldnt hang. Not that the 335 isnt a good car, just not as a performer as the G37.

gtr ... they did not compare the cars yet. edmunds.com provided estimates. They did say that the performance wasnt going to be up to par with the BMW in accelration. Handling though would be very competitive ...

As BMW exec’s pointed out to me, apart from the energy management and hybridisation systems, this isn’t a first for BMW. For example, the much larger, safer, faster and luxurious 2007 320i consumes almost one-quarter less fuel than its predecessor did in 1982 while the 2007 525i asks for 30% less fuel than its 80’s ancestor

gtr... have you driven the 335? If not, then you have no clue of what you are talking about. go and drive one then tell me it is weak. The motor trend & car & driver article dont point to specifics in regards to accelration, lateral grip or braking. It is called First drive, which is a preliminary short drive of the car to get a feel for it. Edmunds.com estimates what it would be like ..... When they actually come out with a direct comparison then we can talk, til then " who are you crapping?"

Thanks for the completely moronic statement. You've obviously never driven one. Altima has FWD and OK handling. G35 has RWD and handling/ride is dead-on with BMW except for the M3.

After seeing the pictures for some time now, I must admit that this does not blow the styling of the 3-Coupe out of the water as much as I was initially hoping it would. I still find the car very attractive and sleek though, and obviously the performance is not lacking. Both mags basically said the interior resembles that of the sedan which means it's improved. We know it will be fairly priced. This will be a hot car yet again.

That is incorrect BMW4me4ever. Edmunds said that the G37 would leave the BMW 335i in its wake when it came to the back roads and high end power. Also it was clear that Edmunds did believe that the G37 was a better performer, definitely in the handling field because they were skeptical that the G37 would beat the 335i in a straightline because it has less low down power and weighs more.

first off edmunds is a joke, and they said all that with out actually testing it, they didnt take them to back roads and they didnt do any accleration tests, this is why edmunds sucks, they say shit instead of actually doing it! i am not saying there wrong on either statement but i want a comparison with real numbers not guesses.
I am not knocking either car just want a real comparison.

Yes you are right they didn't provide numbers, but they did drive both cars back to back, on a race track. If Edmund's sucks, then C&D is completly biased even though they get the best numbers. Oh you should not expect to get full comparisons until the car is available.

i know they drove them back to back but for only 4 laps, I know it was because the 335i overheated, but a twin turbo engine being pushed to it limit in 100+ degree weather is never good.

The 335i is overheated that is "NOT GOOD" at all, the G37 was push to the limit and "Did NOT" overheat like the BMW 335i. I guess that proof that Japanese Engineerign is better than German brand.

your right its not good for it to overheat, but the infinit is N/A and the BMW is a twin turbo, Turbos are not good in very hot weather, they dont perform as well and tend to overheat because it is sucking in so much more hot air.
Put these 2 in a cold climate and the 335i will toast the g37 hands down. Cold = for turbos, hot=not good

No, I'm gonna have to disagree on that one too. The cold will be good not only for the turbo car but the n/a as well. The cooler the air, the more dense, thus a plus for everybody. G37 will definitely bring the heat.

Let's stop arguing about the BMWer vs the Infinti. The reality is that the G37 is probably one of the best value coupes on the market period. While the 335 is a nice coupe, it is expensive compared to the G.
If I had unlimited money I would be looking at a porsche or MB CL550 but I don't.
I just don't see what the extra 10K (fully loaded off of BMW and Infiniti websites) buys me (aside from a BMW name).

Nothing mentioned above is available on the last-gen G35 Coupe. I love the last-gen, and it's better than the new one IMO... but it just doesn't have nearly as much kit as a loaded 3.

Just to be clear on this one (based on a loaded G35 sedan, which today has most of the same options)
- Comfort Access - infiniti has the exact same thing with their smartkeys
- Review camera for backup
- Infiniti controller (better than iDrive)
- Heated seats
- Sport wheels
- 330 HP V6
Doesn't seem like alot of difference for the 10k when you truly compare it.

I always thought Lexus made a great car,but some of the lexus fanboys on here make it easy to put lexus down. See for me I love how Audi is like 50/50 when it comes to luxury/sportiness. To me Lexus is more like 75%luxury and only 25% sportiness, which is fine for some but i like it to be a little more sportier. But for me Lexus is not sporty enough, but I am only 27 years old and started getting Audi when i was 20.
ya see to me BMW is more sport then luxury, and MB is like lexus as far as more luxuxry then sport, but i feel for my taste Audi does it the best. The IS350 is beautiful, i prefer my 2007 A4 with S-line body kit, just wish it had more power like the IS350, but other then that I am very happy. But I need quattro living in NY, and I go sking alot so quattro is a must.
its just hard to right good stuff about Lexus with guys like lexusmaniac and lexusking saying the most rediculous things i have ever read.

lexus isn't even in this class.
let me know when they come out with a coupe that's a equipped with a 6-speed and then we can talk.
and your beloved IS350 is admittedly very fast (almost as fast as a 335i) but it's handling goes numb in hard driving. and though it's a attractive car, it just blends in with the rest of lexus/infiniti cars on the road.

***Attention Nissan Fanboys***
Praise "Ze Germans"
Have any of you people ever been to an automotive journalist test day before?? The manufacturers invite a large group of them to beat the hell out of the car for a good amount of time. The Edmunds Test was most likely done in extremely high amibient temps. Not to mention that the track temp was probably sweltering causing massive amounts of grip. If any of you have every owned a factory turbo car before you know that high temp+hard driving=extremely high engine temps. I am betting that BMW had their ECU tuning on the car tuned for the conservative side. Hence the car going into Limp Mode. PROTECTION!! HMMM Thats a thought. I mean it is a mass produced vehicle. We all want street legal race cars but c'mon who are you trying to kid. Simple re-flashing of the ECU and a colder fan switch and I am sure that you will see drastic improvement in YOUR driving. Not the "beat the car to death" performance of the journalists. If you are buying a 335i anyway, you can fork over the extra dough to safeguard your $40K investment. Who would buy this vehicle for a track car anyway and leave it stock. You should stick to roundy-round git-r-dun racing if you have that notion.
(Please no more IS-F threads unless they have a catastrophic recall from engines grenading!)

How can you compare the generic humdrum styling and Costco sales bin interior of the BMW to the svelte sexy shape of the G37. With perfect throttle response and a chasis built for great things, this my friend is Godzilla Jr.
Of course, for the German car fans who want a propeller logo on their vehicle of choice, they will pant and rave on about the twin turbo cooker and spin the heat issue as a blessing for the frigid north in winter.

because they tested them in the Arizona desert, that's how it can be hot already. And I don't put much credence in a BMW breaking down at an Infiniti press event when that BMW was provided BY INFINITI. You don't think an Infiniti or two has broken down at BMW press events? Or that an Audi/Merc/Infiniti has broken at a Lexus event? It happens. I was at a BMW event for the new X5 and the power steering pump on the Lexus RX we were comparing went out right in the middle of a slalom course. Does that mean every Lexus RX is a lemon? No. You also don't know what alterations were performed on the car prior to testing. It's not much of a secret that the sponsoring manufacturers will often screw around with the competitor cars. No one talks about it and no one would ever admit to it, but everyone knows it goes on everywhere.
It's one test and one car, get over it already.

from a performance perspective, this should be a very interesting--and intense--comparison: G37 vs. 335i. nothing else in the class really stands a chance against these two cars.
however, i must say that the G37 styling is not as impressive as the G35 sedan. the 335i definitely looks more aggressive with its harder edges.

There's a big flashing sign with an "AUDI S5 COUPE" on it.

you need to find a different dealer. You're ok waiting for the car until June or July if you order today, right? Most dealers will take an order at MSRP on the 335i Convertible, they've just already sold their 335i Convertible allocations for March, April, May, and June delivery.

Style-wise, this coupe is one-thumb-up and one-thumb-down when compared to previous body line. But style-wise a G35 sedan is two-thumbs up when compared to outgoing style.
