Is Ford’s turnaround edging ahead of GM’s?
Six month ago you would ignore an article with a title like this one. There is no doubt that GM’s design and engineering operations are standing out from the crowd on a global basis, not to mention the Chevrolet Malibu and the new Cadillac CTS have done wonders for the company.

On other side of town, Ford is trying to do the same - the only problem is FoMoCo started its turnaround plans much later and still hasn’t produced anything close the Malibu or the CTS. According to John McElroy writing over at WardsAutos.com, while GM is at least one design cycle ahead of Ford, he believes Ford has edged ahead of GM.

McElroy points out that Ford’s revenue grew by an outstanding...

Just wait for the new Union deal to take effect (31 billion in future retire health costs is no small thing). And then we will see how "profitable" Ford truly is.

GM has decided to play with the big boys again(thank you) where as ford just had a company "fire sale" and is still playing in the fleet model kiddy pool.

As much as Ford pisses me off (and there is no other company right now that I am truly disgusted with like I am with Ford) I still hope they turn things around.

Both companies are in tough shape. Both GM and Ford squandered opportunities when they both were on top 40 years ago. Both companies ignored imports, built junk and made bad labor deals, both white and blue collar. Top management and unions signed and pushed for ridiculous deals, the last thing either groups cared about was quality products and here we are. I think both will make it but not after alot more pain. Both companies are going to shrink and have to 30% of their dealer body.

these dealers need to figure out that they need to respect their customers.
even if you get beat up a bit on the sale, make the customer feel good about buying their car as they drive it away.
the last 2 i bought didn't work out that way.
i bought my 7 vehicles in a row at the same dealer, but they treated my like crap at the delivery of the last one, so the next time i didn't feel bad about buying somewhere else. actually, i didn't want to go back to the same people, who are still there.
the new dealer delivery experience wasn't any better.
i think i got a good car, so that is the main thing, but it doesn't make we look forward to buying the next one.

gm is being run quite well at the moment, and ford would have to spawn some earth shattering designs, and a rwd platform with independent rear suspension to have a prayer.

"Every dog has its day."

All joking aside, at least both companies are headed in the right direction.

Just because you made more money doesn't mean you produce a better product and that you're a better company. It just means the Kool-aid is working better

It may not mean that they're producing a better product, but since in theory all firms should be profit maximizers a company that makes more money is doing better.
