I am pretty sure that some of these were people's name before the car companies came along.

Shelby Alison. I couldn't sneak in the "correct" spelling of Allison, but I took what I could get. Wife said it was more feminine this way.

Lots of Shelby kids, both sexes. True even before the emergence of the auto world's famous friend (50's & early 60's for you young'ns).

No Agent009... Not if you're a hick! It's the only name you can pronounce if your father is your brother!

Daimler didn't name his cars after his daughter. Neither Karl Benz or Gottlieb Daimler had a daughter named Mercedes and what many people don't know is that Benz and Daimler never met and both founded two separate companies: Benz & Co. and the Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft.

Daimler had a loyal customer named Emil Jellinek (an Austrian businessman and enthusiastic racedriver) who had a daughter named Mercedes. Jellinek referred to his personal Daimler racecars as "Mercedes" and soon enough, all of Daimler's cars became known as Mercedes. That's the short version.

In 1926, when the companies Benz & Daimler merged, the cars became known as "Mercedes-Benz".

Hmm... Girls with car names... Those are the kind of girls you expect to run in red light districts!

Some of those boy names are also just ridiculous! They might make do as last names, but imagine the teasing during the first 10 years of school!

I had this girl in my class and her name was spelled "Celica" yet she wanted to be called something like (I am not good at phonics) Saleeka, to differentiate herself from the car name.

and she mentioned that she wasn't named after the car after the professor pronounced the name as the car is pronounced.

I hope I meet a kid named Infiniti some day. That would be interesting.

As Roller said, Mercedes was actually a classy name for a female before the brand came along.

However, I don't believe Mercedes was the daughter of Daimler. I'm pretty sure it was the daughter of one of the main investors of the company... and Karl Benz took a liking to her.

I have actually met one or two people named Mercedes. It's an elegant name. Of course I wouldn't name my daughter that, but I can understand why you would.

I also agree with Roller about Lexus-- LEXUS?!!! How about Alexis?

"Hummer" would be appropriate because maybe he could have avoided naming the child altogether had he settled for one... :)
