Is Maybach hurting Mercedes? Convertible and SUV still in the works?
Executives at Mercedes-Benz are saying that it doesn’t cost much too keep the Maybach brand on the market, although dealers aren’t too happy. 70 U.S. Mercedes-Benz dealerships spent over $500,000 preparing their showrooms for the Maybach brand, however the car isn’t selling as well as they’d hope.

While Mercedes-Benz set an annual target of 500 Maybachs when it debuted in 2003, dealers have sold only 778 cars up until July of 2007. So what’s next for Maybach?...

Ha ha...no. No one that is looking at a Maybach cares about a silly LS Hybrid. They would be looking at Bentley and Rolls-Royce. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Which knocks it down a few pegs on the prestige meter, not to mention the styling is a cheap and bland imitation of Mercedes-Benz.

Agreed. The fact that the Maybach was designed in Tokyo, certainly did not help.

The Lexus 460h is an oxymoron. Anyone willing to empty his wallet for an overpriced Lexus is not going to care about it being a hybrid. There is no way to prove that the Lexus V-8 is any better or any worse than the V-8 engines currently produced by other luxury makes -- its all perception caused by Lexus marketing hype. The only thing I care about in an engine is that aluminum blocks have cast-in iron liners and that 6-cylinder engines be in the horizontal or in-line configuration or in a 60-degree V configuration. I insist on engines having DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder and I hate SHOC engines such as the 3-valve Maybach engine -- shame on Mercedes for that.

I agree with you Kalimba. Houston is in his/her own little fantasy land. The rest of us live in reality. It rather dumb to be discussing Lexus ad nauseum when this article speaks nothing about Lexus.

Why do Lexus fans who feel the need to insert Lexus into every topic and center everything around their favorite brand. They must be experiencing sort of medical condition. Lexus Inferiority Complex (LIC), perhaps? Something like Bush Derangement Syndrome.

German cars and Japanese cars are very different in many ways and appeal to two different types of drivers. Respect that and get over delusions.

Seven-speed automatics are good enough. Even a 5-speed is good enough for an automatic. Incremental benefits are very small after 6 speeds.

As for hybrids, only impoverished greenies and politically correct middle classes want them so they should not be offered in cars like the Lexus LS series. Clearly Lexus is just making a political statement by producing an LS hybrid.

Plus the Maybach is just an over price MB and the MB S-class offer many of the stuff Maybach has. Why would anyone paid $400,000 U.S. dollar for a Maybach when they can get something similar to it like an MB S-Class.

I got an even better idea, why not get a Lexus LS600hl, has the most highly techological techno out there. It is the most realible, higest quality, and it is very close perfection. In fact, it also has been compare to a private $1+ million jet for it advance in techno and luxury interior.

At the rate the Maybach is selling, I wonder if it will end up the same fate as the VW Phaeton?

houston, you have to be the most rediculous person on this site. We are talking about Maybach here, which has no relation to Lexus/Toyota...completely different worlds and different audiences no matter how many times you define "prestige"

Stick with the subject (Rolls/Aston/etc would be appropriate) and don't lecture us like some frustrated school teacher about a subject you have run into the ground.

Stop ranting like the hysterical drag queen you must be...time to get ready for your next show>

I've often wondered myself, is Houston a drag queen or a single female hoping to snag a wealthy car guy or is Houston simply an immature relative of a loved one whose livelyhood depends on the success of Lexus. Any other theories?

In Newport and Laguna Beach there are hundreds of homes that are worth over ten million dollars each and they want a Maybach and not a Lexus Celica Scion LS660HEL.

I work for a huge "Prestige", oh no, can't say that here, hmmmm... "Luxury"? Hmmmm... not permitted either. How about "Expensive Car" dealership? Is that OK for all the sensetive people here? ..and I stop by this site once in a while to see what's out there, what people think and so on. It seems that there is always some sort of psychopath "post-er" that just makes it annoying for everyone. For me, it used to be "Will", but now he seems alot better (renewed his prescription I guess), and now there's that "Pain-in-the-ass" HoustonCutie.
Seriously, how much time do you have on your hands to go on and on like you do. Get some help, go outside take a walk, take a vacation, talk to a human being, get another hobby than this one. You need to mix-it-up a little.
There are a lot of great vehicles out there. You might have a personal preference like I do, but it doesn't mean that the others are ALL outdated and garbage.
Your passion for "Lexus" is commendable but your broad-minded views discredit your posts and just turn people against you and your brand. I know you'll say you don't care, but if you really didn't, you wouldn't go on and on all day like you do.

Unfortunately, Lexus tries to emulate the Maybach with a half-ass attempt to clone the Maybach 62's rear reclining seat. But Lexus offers this seat on one side only which is like offering you half a car.

Lexus is a good brand but it is also retarded to always bring it up on every single thread regarding German Luxury cars. Almost any topic on German cars and Lexus fans boys just have to type "Lexus is better" banter. Lol German fanboys do it with much less frequency.
