Is NASCAR Really This Easy? We Hope Not!
Most of us can agree that NASCAR gets little respect from the racing community. But is it really as simple as this? We hope you can laugh along as, legendary NASCAR coach Dan Amon shares his strategy for driving really fast in circles
NASCAR Coach Reveals Winning Strategy: 'Drive Fast'
We hope there is more to it that this!

NASCAR is not that easy. Ask the plethora of racing champions from other series that have tried and failed miserably in NASCAR. There have only been a few drivers in history that have made the switch and have been successful.
There's a lot that comes in to play that people don't necessarily always see. The draft is the biggest - even things such as side draft and knowing how/when to use it can be the difference between winning a race. On bigger tracks like Talladega/Daytona where 43 drivers are running inches from each other at 200mph for the whole race, a LOT of skill is required to race in the pack and not wreck yourself an everyone cause even shifting just a few inches all of a sudden could cause a massive wreck. Moving in the pack is even harder.
I use to be a person that thought it was just all about driving in circles, but when you actually pay attention to the sport, you gotta give these guys credit where it's due because it's more difficult than most people think.
Some food for thought: whenever NASCAR drivers have swapped series with another driver (promotion, etc.), the NASCAR drivers have typically either won the race or finished in the top 5 or top 10. I have yet to see a driver from another series finish even in the top 20 in NASCAR.

Can you give us some examples of champion drivers from other series who have failed at NASCAR? Can you give us some examples of NASCAR drivers who have been top five drivers in say, F1 or DTM or GT or WRC?

NASCAR is definitely easier than F1 and Rally. And karting. And DTM. And LeMans. And ..
I never really liked NASCAR, but it should be respected.

WickedRabbit, I hope your not serious. Many of the other drivers from other series failed due to: Not being able to adjust to heavy pathetic cars (would you if you spent time racing in a Cart or F1 car?)with poor brakes and out-dated suspension (derived from a 1960's truck!!)
And, Two they couldn't do too well in the series they left, like Juan Montoya, he sucked in F1.
And Three, politics, Nascar is not about the best team, but what type of drama they can market...
You know they were trying to get more hip and trying to gain more blacks in Nascar...last time I check in f1 there a black dude who may be the next Schuey (okay, I'm getting ahead of myself). Point is F1 is luck in getting the right team and your driving skill, Nascar does not include that.
And Finally, name one driver that has cross over from NASCAR and done well in F1, DTM, Cart. I only know of one father and son team thatr did well with the C5-R's (you know who did that don't you?)

What are you rambling on about? And why did you even bring black people up?? I mean I couldn't tell what the point of that post was.. You were obviously not trying to be taken serious but it's waaaay too long to just be a trolling post (used to get a reaction).. How about you ask for permission before contributing anything else..

Stop it already with the holier-than-thou posts Utah Kid... People are are sorts of things on this site but it's nearly as irritating to see you question their political correctness all the time.

NASCAR is about precision. Think about it 200 laps with a line that only varies a few inches through out the race. every mistake is monumental.
Road racing is a different animal all together is is a series of turns with mistakes at each corner. The best lap time are those with the least amount of mistakes.
Both take tremendous skill and discipline.

Since when was JPM sucky in F1? He won quite a few races, set quite a few lap records... okay he was no schumacher... but one of the best drivers not to win the WDC!
Who do you rate in F1 then?

I think we miss the point when we compare NASCAR to F-1; totally different.
Is NASCAR that easy- I don't think so.
Is F-1 easy- absolutely not.

Haha that was a pretty funny idea.. They kinda milked it for everything it was worth, but if you're in the mood for some Talladega Nights style humor then hit it up. The funny thing is that I wasn't sure if it was fake or not until he started talking.. I really thought that kind of clothing was the style for NASCAR head haunchos or something.
If anything deserves respect in NASCAR it's the huge amounts of money involved in the sport. Call them red neck all you want, but I doubt anyone to ever grace the pages of this website will ever dream to make as much as they pay out in taxes. Ive never watched it and I never will but I'd trade places with a team owner any day.

People are just jealous of Toyota's success in NASCAR so now they claim it is an easy sport. Just wait until Toyota dominates F1 and Le Mans! Punks!

HAH! doing well you say , I don't think placing in ther top 6 or seventh last Tue, @ Michigan does not constitute a good season , and this being their best finish all year long. Dale J and Mikey are a joke and I'm sure Toytie knows it. Most of the time all the noise you hear out of Mike Waltrip is him tooting the air horns on the hauler as he is leaving the track on the count of another DNQ and as far as UPS saying "Every day is Raceday" in honor of their favorite driver it should say, " Everyday is Raceday except Sunday " That's because he failed to make the field ,,again

Gordon swapped cars with two different F1 drivers on two occassions for a promotion (charity or something) racing event. He finished 2nd in both I believe. Dale JR and Kasey Kayne (?) finished 2nd/3rd in their first ever Lemans event. Tony Stewart and Jimmy Johnson are prime examples of people that can drive the wheels off anything. They've been champions in virtually every series they competed in.
And whoever made that comment about not being able to drive a "lesser" vehicle is retarded when you think about racing. Regardless of how well your car handles, a "true" driver can drive the guts out of anything and can adjust. Blaming equipment for piss poor performance just goes to show how easy other sports *cough* F1 *cough* have made it on their drivers that when you actually have to get your ass up on the wheel and handle they can't cut it. Now I've seen great drivers from EVERY series win races with poor cars... those are the better drivers imo. If you can't cut it because you're stuck on easy mode, don't blame the equipment...go get some skill.

Jimmy Johnson and Jeff Gordon have represented the US very well in various international events though. the only other americans on the same plane as nascar drivers are Travis Pastrana and the Andretti family.

NASCAR is pretty good, I only really got into it after JPM went there, and it's not the easiest sport to follow in the UK.
I love all forms of racing, and anybody that thinks NASCAR is easy or dull hasn't watched it (or doesn't know anything about motorsport!)
The technical challenge for the driver is massive (I'm not saying more than any other sport) but the fact that they "drive round in circles" is irrelevant. Yes, it largely takes the racing line out of the equation, but drafting/slipstreaming is soooo much more relevant in NASCAR than in F1 or any sportscar racing - because you've basically got to do it ALL the time (or else you get freight-trained), not to mention selectively working the draft with team-mates!
JPM for instance has won in CART and IRL, nearly won F1 world championship, and has already won in Busch and Nextel series (Albeit on Road circiuts). The Andretti's have raced in most things between them!
Next time you're doing 140mph+ down the highway, pull up 4 inches behind somebody, then pull out and try and get within 1" of their wingmirror -- then tell me it isn't exciting!!!!
