I turned in my leased 2004 A6 Quattro yesterday. Audi is now the benchmark for interiors and fit and finish generally. The version of Quattro that has a Torsen® center differential is virtually unbeatable in the winter. The photo in this article gets no styling criticism from me -- its fabulous.

I would like Audi to dump the 90-degree V6 in favor of a 60-degree V6 or, better still, an inline or horizontally opposed V6.

Audi should provide a true on-board diagnostic capability by displaying a trouble code that the driver can then look up in a manual instead of displaying a warning light that forces the owner to see a dealer to find out more precisely where the problem is.

Audi should steer away from the blackmail marketing practice of charging extra for certain colors.

The only flaw I noticed in the photo in this article is that the wheel spokes are not protected by the tire against curb damage. Rims should alway be designed to keep the spokes well away from the outer bulge of the tire.

Looks like the A4. Hardly a "wow" vehicle.

I own both a BMW and an Audi. If I have to recommend one, its BMW all the way. But I saw R8 on a bright day, the daylight LED headlight looks very very cool. If they bring those light (as bright as R8) to A4,A5 & A6 its going to leave competition in dust..nice job Audi

mee too-both an orig Audi enthusiast that became a BMW fan, however if it can keep up with my new twin turbo 6, handle as well, have a better interior, better MMI than my Idrive, and oh yeah, if Audi wakes up and gets the Audi Advantage back, I will have a tough decision in 2010!

"If they bring those light (as bright as R8) to A4,A5 & A6 its going to leave competition in dust.."

You think all it takes to "leave competition in dust" is a set of LED DRLs?

I hope the A6 actually leaves the competition in the dust in many OTHER areas, areas that are far more necessary (engine, style, simple sex appeal).

Gives a little variation to the design compared to the (now) slightly repetitive design schemes from audi.

Personally I think Audi shouldn't worry about the new A6 - the A6 is still a very nice car that definitely has more years on its hands. Audi should be worrying about the A8 - the current A8 is out-dated, ugly and overpriced. Get the new A8 into testing, not worrying about the new A6.

I actually think its the other way around. The current A6 is a very very nice car, but in my opinion it's look has dated worse than the A8 has. The A8 is a low volume car so you dont see so much of it, but the A6 on the other hand is much more frequently seeing with the design getting old.

I think this A6 design is amazing, borrows well from the current AUDI design scheme and makes it uniquely its own.

nybimmernybimmer - 5/18/2008 10:16:03 PM

The A8 is totally dated and is overpriced (even though its the cheapest car in the segment). I just cross-shopped it and the S550 and after driving the Merc, the A8 is like so 2001. Sure the interior is nice - but its Jag nice (wood, leather) but design is really dated.

Also - don't dump your coffee on the console of any Audi. Audi put the dual cup holders mere inches from about 10 major switches (transmission, 'start' button, audio controls, HVAC, MMI, among others) and a teeny tiny bit of liquid will short the whole thing out. Seems gravity pulls the liquid right into the swiches/controllers quickly killing the whole thing.

I've heard Audi dealers/Audi NA will pay for 1 replacement during warranty but after that - you're on your own - about $3K.

Audi should either get out of the A8 business and focus on the mid-sized and small lines or else fix it from the top down.

considering the two are completely unrelated, it's a funny comment

the next A6 is rumored to be 197 inches long riding on a 118 inch wheelbase. Much bigger than anything else in the segment

Dimitri 010 is right - the A8 might be one year older, but it looks better than the current A6. I always thought the A6 didn't look so hot from the side or rear. Based on looks alone, this new A6 should sell much better.

I originally thought that this new version of the A6 would be just an update, but according to easycarblog this car is going to be brand-new, based on the MLB platform used for the A5/S5 and B8 A4. Apparently Audi has decided to give the BMW 5-series and Mercedes E-class some real competition. I look forward to seeing the final product.

Audi should differentiate their cars some more. This looks like an A4 with big "cheeks". Very nice, but cmon give it an effort at least!

Why not? It looks absolutely feasible. It takes the shape of the current A6 and sexes it up a bit, adding in the A4's aggressive new headlamps.

The A6's worst angle (right now) is definitely the front. The confidence that you see from the rear and the sides is ruined by those sad headlights and rounded front overhang. That is also the Audi where the grille fits in the least IMO. I hope this is what it looks like.

just a comment...the article asks if this new A6 can 'seriously' put a dent in benz and bmw sales.

how much more is Audi supposed to dent those sales figures when they have been ahead for years? And i am talking about Europe and Germany. In the U.S. we will have to wait and see since Audi is just starting to gain some real recognition.

The new A4 is going to look really awesome on the street, just wait... Hope the A6 looks like it. Knowing Audi, it will.

Pretty car, aggressive front end but the body slip back into the typical Audi motif. I adore Audi, I just wish their styling was as adventurous as it use to be.

I like that car alot! I have always liked the A6, I still remember getting absolutely destroyed by a chipped A6 2.7T at the Fayetteville motorsports park in NC, I thought to myself: "its AWD and turbo, but its a pig, I will walk him by the 1/8th. Final score supercharged Nissan Maxima 13.6 chipped A6 12.7 and it looked worse than that. Audi has great build quality, and top notch interiors and the A6 is full size roomy. If it looks like that and they bring back a turbo model as an optional engine, then I am sold.
