Is This the New Honda NSX?
In Japan things are happening faster than normal. Not that Japan is slow, hardly. But these days supercars are being churned outta Japan like sake at the corner bar. Why just the other day we had the formidable Nissan GT-R coming out of the factory. Toyota is bringing a sports car of its own while its Lexus division can’t seem to make up its mind whether LF-A is a perpetual concept or a future car. Now we have the next Honda NSX being scheduled, and we have a pretty good idea of what it will look like, thanks to Best Car magazine. Expectations are that it will cost even more than the GT-R.

NSX has been testing under mule conditions in Nordschleife last summer. According to the word on the street, NSX aims to hit a time of 7 minutes 30 seconds around there, which would be a Porsche GT beater and possibly GT-R slayer too. How do they plan on achieving such a mad proposition? Well V10 is the engine size of choice, displacing a 4.5-litre engine. Said figures reach over 400kW for power. The car will be sold under the Acura name which is on its way to Japan. Will it live up to the legendary status of its predecessor like the GT-R has proven to?

Hondcura's legendary NS-X should be another huge success and setting up an another notch for supercar arena as the first gen. NS-X has done by proving a supercar can be driver friendly at the sametime insanely fast and agile.

The NSX was "insanely" fast? Maybe if you were coming out of a Yugo or something similar...
It was a great-handling sports car, but not insanely fast.

It was like 6 seconds to 60 - quick, but not supercar fast.

A late model NSX, a type R for example was getting in the high 4's for 0-60 times...but yes, the NSX was not about being the most powerful, but being the most balanced...

"It was like 6 seconds to 60 - quick, but not supercar fast."

- Considering the NSX came out 18 years ago that 6 seconds was fast. I believe it was actually 5.2 seconds 0-60 but it doesn't matter. The construction of that car will go down in history as one of the best. The quality of the bodywork and everything was far superior than any of the cars Honda produced.

As much as the Skylines, Supra's, RX-7's were all "Japanese" supercars, none of them had the setup NSX had. (source: Wikipedia) "It has a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout, an all-aluminium body and chassis, and a V6 gasoline engine featuring Honda's VTEC system."

For it's time the car was good. However, it has since fallen behind all it's Japanese rivals. It's a shame to say the least.

The revival of a second generation NSX would not only put Honda back in contention. It will draw more attention to their brand. I respect Honda it's just their not trend setting like Toyota has done in the last decade. With a new NSX it will definitely shine some light on the brand.

They have a lot of potential. Anyone who watches their races can agree. They're a world class company.

So, essentially, the Audi R8.

Yea, it only took Audi 15 years or so to make an NSX ;-)
Unfortunately, it seems like it will take Acura about 15 years to make an R8!!!

C'mon. Front engine is not that bad, especially in 4WD car. GT-R already proved it.

However if it remains RWD then I'd say NSX should stay mid-engined.

@dlin

front engine isnt bad for the gtr cause its how thier platform has been for decades. the NSX has midengine for 1 decade, which i can understand a proposition to which platform, but its a change of character. im sure people like the nsx cause of the styling and probably one of the best (though overpriced) japanese car ever produced. switching to FR is generic for alot of japanese cars, MR layout is unique.

- Front engine wouldn't be bad but the fact that it's a 2nd generation they should consider placing the motor in the middle again to capture that supercar appearance again. It will definitely be a marque Japanese car if it is done again with proper execution.

I'm not going to put my hopes up though. With recent updates from the Acura line (TSX) i'm not sure if any of the Honda & Acura designers are stepping in the right direction.

I think the concept that was out a few years ago ( I believe it was the silver one ) was by far the best looking one so far.

I don't know what Honda's plans will be for this car. The original NSX has become legendary not because of its power or speed, but because it brought real world reliability/driveability to a gorgeous supercar package. Well now supercars aren't just made by the exotic Italians. Supercars are/will be made by Toyota, Nissan, MB, BMW, Audi, GM, etc, and all make damn good, reliable driveable cars. I love Honda, but I don't think the NSX will stand out from the crowd the way the original did. Without the uniqueness of the original model, it will need to be one of the fastest cars on the road in order to make headlines. Will it be faster than the GT-R, 911 GT3, or LF-A? I certainly hope so, good luck Honda.

I believe HONDA will keep the weight down a lot better than NISSAN by using carbon fiber everywhere. And that in a way justifies the price.

However, let's don't forget NISSAN is working on GT-R V spec and we'll see how they fight out. Anyway, I wonder how high it revs to......
