Is this the next BMW 3-Series?
Even though the current BMW 3-Series is on a sales roll the engineers at BMW are not resting on their laurels.
They are hard at work in development of the next generation superstar and lucky for us, we have a glimpse of the direction they are going.
Car magazine is reporting that the BMW Concept CS that was shown in Shanghai gives us a look at the design language that will make its way into the next 3-Series, as well as a CLS type vehicle.
Here are some new photos but you definitely need to read the article in the latest issue, if you want to get dialed into the future of BMW design.
If its true, I think they are definitely going in the right direction.
Car magazine is my favorite print auto magazine.
It's the AutoSpies.com of print IMHO.

It's never too early to revise a car that has too little legroom for rear passengers.

Yes, I hear the next 5-er will be more evolutionary, not revolutionary like these cs-like shots. which are gorgeous by the way!
Design needs to be more emotional like this, not so much like every other car on the road.

Seriously, how far will car designers take this evil looking design trend. The grille looks like a half-crazed smirk. Headlamps look morphine-drooped. BMW is better when the car simply looks a bit mean.

Yes. The grill is stupid. Like braces on King Kong. The inset rear windshield is a nice design cue and the tailights, if simplified and rendered in LEDs could be good. But the CS concept is too derivative: Aston Martin window profile, Dodge Charger grill and rear fender line.
At least Bangle is original.

The back end look very similar to the Lexus IS250/350 design. I think the back look really good, but the rest of the design is just HIDEOUS.........

right, because no one took issue with the 5-series, 7-series, or MB R350. Honestly, you have no credibility on this forum whatsoever.

Now we know what the next Lexus will look like.
I'm sure at the Tahara plant they've already got a clay model of this BMW for design cues for the next GS.

Buckfush it is obvious that Toyota copies styles from other makes....so the LS evolving from a Camry means the Camry took its cues from BMW. That rear deck lid on the new Lexus is definitely a nod to the current 7 series.

right, because a Lexus is known for being unreliable and cheaply made, unlike BMW and MB?? Yeah, you never read an article about questionable fit/materials, christ I could literally find dozens talking about their cost cutting over the last ten years. Bwahahaha!!! What a dumbass you are, honestly!

Formula1, you should run for president.
It was so good, I had to say it again......
BuckWheat, there is no need to take a Lexus apart, it will just fall apart by itself when you drive it. Plus there is nothing to see in a new Lexus other than the technology used in the older Mercedes or BMW models that Lexus always copies.
Form1, Keep up the good work.

I'm not brainwashed by Lexus, I've also owned/own BMWs, Audis and MBs, the difference is I talk from experience i.e. actually own and drive these cars, unlike you.Lexus does alot right, and yet you by default refuse to acknowledge it by trashing them regardless, the telltale sign of a fanboy.
But at least you get to live rent-free in your parent's basement.

This is a beautiful Concept..great design that definitely takes a leap ahead in many respects (esp the interior) The article speculates that this could be the next 8 series at the top end of the BMW lineup..I dont know why there are so many haters on this site, but everyone I have shown the article to would buy this car no questons asked.(one has a Bentley Cont)

In all fairness, Will at least generally does not directly insult people. Sure he defends what he beleives about the brand, but it is really not the same as the foul-mouthed insults of some of the others. I find that he will generally give credit where credit it due.

I can see 5 series design cues at the rear.
I'd like to see a rear redesign, it is a little scarce of personality.
Reminds me of an early Hyundai Triburon.
I'm wondering if the front will work well with cooling.
Is it possible that the two lower openings could be part of an intercooler system for a biturbo?

I just had to post this again thanks EL34.
Lexus is Lost as of right now. They are looking for a new design to to manipulate and call it there L-Finessee rubbish. Clearly 75% of Lexus design theme came from the influence of Mercedes and BMW, and the other 25% is the what the clueless designers just slaped together. Like Mercedes is the creator of the 4 eye design, not Lexus so lets not get that twisted.

I love the concept CS design. I'm guessing the new 5 and 7 will be more evolution than revolution. If the next 3-series takes cues from the concept CS then great I say, I love the current 3-series coupe but I think the saloon looks a bit bland unless it has the 18 inch rims on it.

And I thought *today's* BMWs are unattractive. BMW has yet even bigger surprises up their sleeves. Hey, the Audi A5 looks really sweet. I hope it'll be available in a cabriolet.
