OK Everyone, I know this is only one month but what the heck is going on here?
If you take a look at the luxury car sales for January you might say the world was turned upside down.
The top three in sales for the month have flip flopped from the 2010 year end leaders.
We now have:
#1 16398 units for Mercedes +11.4%
#2 15905 units for BMW +20.8%
#3 12860 units for Lexus -17.1%
The problem here is that EVERYONE in the segment posted double digit gains, but the 2010 leader Lexus posted a double digit DROP? Even worse than their "December To Forget" decrease of almost 9%?
If you REALLY want to mix it up even more, then throw in Cadillac at 12580 units (+49.1%) for the month, and you see that Lexus came within only 280 units of placing FOURTH! Is this anyway for the leader to perform out of the gate?
Now lets focus on the minions of the luxury market and see we have a similar state here as well.
#4 7961 units for Acura +11.6%
#5 7812 units for Audi +20%
#6 7405 units for Infiniti +10.3%
Audi USA within 100 units of Acura for a month... REALLY? Has the world gone crazy?
Now it is VERY easy to run with this, but I have to ask you. What earth shattering models do any of the Pacific Rim makers have in 2011 that will give them a boost against the Germans?
This is crazy! Are the Japanese automakers becoming so generic there are literally killing the lead they built?
I hope not, but do you think in this case they may have become so full of their own dominance that they have squandered the lead of the century?
It is a MAD MAD MAD World! So tell me what you think!
