It's No Bugatti Veyron, But We Think You'll Love It Just As Much!
After spending the weekend at the Concorso Italiano, Quail Event and Concours D'Elegance in Monterey, I experienced sensory overload with all the automotive wretched excess.

Veyron's, Scaglietti's, Reinventions, SL63 Black's and the likes were EVERYWHERE!

(See all the cars up close in our award winning photo galleries)

·  Concours D Elegance

·  The Quail Event 2008

·  Concorso Italiano

Do I own any of those cars or will I ever?

Probably not.

Not because I couldn't afford one (I can...well, not a Veyron or Reinvention but a Ferrari or Bentley, yes), but because there are so many reasonably affordable cars out there that are less of a headache and perform day to day almost as well, with none of the trade offs.

That's why I never leave Monterey depressed that I can't obtain the pleasurable experience (soup to nuts) that most of these show-off's (and trust us, no matter how they try to deny, they are), supposedly have everyday as owners of these exotic elites.

We drive all the best rides in the world but certain cars just get better the more we live behind the wheel of them.

And that's EXACTLY how I feel about the car BMW provided for us to drive for the weekend...

The BMW 335 convertible.

No question in my mind this is one of the best cars on earth...at ANY price.

In town, on the highway, top up, top down, it's spectacular no matter how you use it.

It could be the best daily driver if you carry two or less people most of the time.

And in my opinion it is up there as one of the most beautiful car designs EVER.

Yes, EVER.

I predict this car will be a future collectable in Concour events 20 years from now and just keeps getting better looking, the more I see it.

I even thought it looked good in the rare Barbera Red with Dakota Red interior example we were given.

It looks AMAZING in person.

So enjoy this beautiful mini photo gallery I shot of this sexy beast.

And don't ever feel bad that a Veyron isn't in your future.

You can still live the dream in cars like these.

It's No Bugatti Veyron, But We Think You'll Love It Just As Much!

well....no dout in my mind the 335i is a fantastic car...I would buy the 335i coupe before the convertible because I think the lines look better on the coupe...Convertibles no matter soft or hard top always change the look of the car...If I had the option(price not being a factor) to have the 335i or say Ferrari California, bet im taking the dancing horse, not for braging rights or to show off, its just the sound, the feel, and power of the car

Im pretty sure I will never drive a Veyron, but if I had the money to buy any car I wanted the only BMW I would buy would be is a M6 coupe....My favorite BMW

I think BMW should revert back to the soft top I think its a cleaner look than the hard top. But as a package its a nice car and I am sure it performs well also

Soft-Tops look tacky when up. Soft-Top convertible cars only look good when the top is down IMO. Hard-top convertibles look good with the top up or down.

Great car - but that color is just ugly! Blue, Red, or white in that order. Mine was silver and hid a lot of highway wars - but the color didn't stand out enough.

One last thought the pics above made me think of...
Why can they do so many things right - but yet design the worst cup holders in the industry?? I do like how they have a wine glass with a slash through it though!!

they gave you a Barbera Red convertible with red leather interior? Doesn't sound like a particularly attractive combination. Next time hit them up for Alpine White on red. Now THAT'S a beautiful car...

We constantly ask them for review product but they have less cars in their fleets and they still believe only print mags matter and they get priority

BMW is the most internet saavy and wired of all the companies

And we do cover all the competitors products when there is news plus we constantly request invites to their events to cover their products.

It's up to THEIR PR people to wake up and smell the Starbucks and realize sites like AutoSpies.com are where the REAL influencer's are.

So many comments on BMW's that to me are simply over the top and unrealistic. Never seen so much bias towards on brand on a site, that is not a flat out advertisement. I like always, this post will be de-boosted because I said something that was not totally positive about BMW. This is getting too predictable. "BMW is the absolute best car on Earth, and so forth...". If you do not agree you get de-boosted.

kthorkthor - 8/22/2008 12:30:46 PM
+3 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
I sense a tear coming, do you need a tissue? Seriously, if a person is lucky enough in their life to find something that makes them passionate that is a great thing. "Preference" does not equal "bias". The best laid out arguments on this site tend to come from people who prefer BMW. The comments of pure meaningless garbage usually seem to come from elsewhere. That is the true "bias", the people with little to no real experience who can't make a valid point.

BMW makes cars by enthusiasts for enthusiasts so its not a big surprise they have a following. You should go to Bimmerfest once to see the very real passion that BMW inspires in people. It isn't advertising, it's the cars.

Agent001,

Are you still going to be alive in 20 years? I don't want to sound mean, but it is just a question.

Sorry, but no mass market car like a 335i will ever be a collectible. BMW's aren't collectible, except for very rare older cars like the 507 or 2002tii. A 3-Series isn't rare, they are all over California and Europe. Every other car is a 3-Series.

Most companies probably don't invite you because of your bias towards BMW. There are 5 stories a day on BMW on this website. You have already stated you have a bias towards BMW, so what is the point?

Teknik - you are correct. This car might be a great car for the average Joe to buy and pretend to be there favorite race car driver - it has no chance to ever be collectible. The BMW that does - is the Z8.

So based on that bias I love cars like the GS450h, MBS550, S63, Audi S5, 911S, GT3, M3, 550, M5, X5, GL320D, New Jetta Diesel, MINI Diesel, R8, GT-R, 135, 335, 09 CTS-V, Tahoe Hybrid, Escalade Hybrid...should I go on?

dont start hate-in on agent001 Its just an opinion you guys need fix your panties or go sit on the toilet and take a piss....I feel BMW will be sought after especially the M series because I know if I had the money to spare I would purchase a 94-98 M3 coupe I still like that car to this day and the 8 series thats an instant classic the old BMW M6 from the early 80's is another classic But I like all types of cars remeber the GMC typhoon and Syclone two classics that would be my garage. There is a long list so I cant go through all of them....but dont worry Agent001 I get what your saying these other clowns got AUDI blinders on and dont see the big picture.

@ Teknik

What about the BMW 502 coupe/convertible?
What about the BMW 2002?

What about the 1990's M5?

What about the 1980's 6-series?

BMW has plenty of collectable cars its just the 507 is the one every body knows about.

TeknikTeknik - 8/22/2008 4:48:42 PMView My AgentSpace
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
The Z8 was a sales failure. The only reason it might be sought after is because of its low numbers.

The older M6 and M5 will only appeal to BMW enthusiasts. Same goes for the 2002.

The only car that BMW has is the 502 and 507, that anyone will remotely even care about.

BMW has nothing that will be a classic like a Benz, period. The average consumer doesn't care about a "classic" BMW. Even Audi has the same problem.

I totally disagree with you. A couple of Months ago you gave an opinion on the new Hyundai Genesis without having driven it. You spoke about the interior materials on how they were not up to par with other car companies.
I actually test drove the Genesis two weekends ago and I was extremely impressed by the way it drove and felt. The Interior is Def neck and neck with that of Lexus.

I do agree that BMW is basically one of the best but when comparing prices to other car companies that offer more and 98% close to the driving feel to that of the BMW or a Mercedes-Benz the price both these German companies ask for now a days is not worth the extra money over something like say an Infiniti.

Autospies does provide good spy information and news. But your articles are very BIASED towards BMW.

Well the Phaeton was nicer than any Lexus, BMW, MB or Audi inside and it went nowhere...Hyundai's success here is NOT a slam dunk.

BimmerGuyFL78BimmerGuyFL78 - 8/21/2008 9:33:52 PM

The Phaeton went now were cause. 1) it was basically an Audi A8 without the aluminum body. 2) it was priced close to that of the A8, 7-series, S-Class, Jaguar XJ8.
3) It was basically engineered as a Front Wheel Drive car that came with AWD.

The Genesis was built on a Rear Wheel Drive platform with good weight distribution and it's also half the price of the Pheaton which more persons will be able to afford.

The Pheaton was priced in the 70K range that who in their right mind would purchase one when the price was basically the same to that of the A8, 7-series, S-Class and LS430(at the time).

Agent001Agent001 - 8/21/2008 9:43:02 PMView My AgentSpace

But the VW was less than the S-Class and others and VW banked on people who didn't care about the badge.

We can tell you that you cannot believe HOW far people will go to have a BADGE in their driveway.

People WANT their neighbors to notice they have arrived.

I think Hyundai doesn't realize this...

But remember, it's a good first effort on their part and we hope they get better and better over time.

Nothing against them, just our opinion.

The car is as solod as my Boxster was, top down driving is great. The Bluetooth is usable at 75mph top down.

Best car I have owned.

THe mercedes hardtops are 2 seaters......the 3 series is a larger car(passenger space wise), the top has to cover head room for both rows of seating, so its going to be shaped like that....much the same way the other 4 seat hardtops have a somewhat odd look with the top up...the eos, C70, sebring.....though I think the C70 pulls it off the best...it was a big thing for BMW though to focus on the rear deck being flat with the top down, which makes it better looking that alot of hardtops with its top down rather than rising the back to fit the lines of the convertible top

What's with the Aubergine-ish (pretty) exterior with the Coral Red Interior?

That's like getting a British Racing Green Car and having Lime Green interior.

See, If i were a BMW dealer providing 001 (assuming they do know how many people visit this site) with a car, I'd make sure it wasn't some hideous color combination.

On a similar note, I've always wondered why when BMW introduces a car, they do all the promotional and press info with a model in a color which is LEAST likely to be chosen among consumers.

Examples-

BMW E46 M3: Phoenix (aka, Bugger/BabyPoo) Yellow
New 7 Series: Beige
E93 Convertible: Sonora Metallic (Beige/Gold)
1 Coupe- Crimson (?) Red

Although I under the nostalgia underscoring the 1 Coupe's press kit color, and while the 3 Series Convertible and 7 Series' beige is not an unattractive color, I feel personally that BMW should showcase it's new designs in colors which people gravitate towards.

If that new 7 series had been introduced via video and pictures in Black, the responses would have been significantly different amongst viewers giving opinions.

As Car and Driver said, the 335i is the best all-around car on earth. Many cars are better in one way or another but the 335i puts the whole package together perfectly. It is roomy enough to go on long trips, gets 30mpg on the highway, looks great, is built well, fun to drive on the track, and is priced reasonably.
