It's no longer a leak, it's a flood! More official Jaguar XF photos and details surface
Unofficially, the team behind the XF called it “the new Mk2”, both to differentiate it from the S-type and XJ, and to associate it with the charisma, the compact shape and the fine driving qualities of that enduring '60s icon.
This new rival to the Mercedes E-class, Audi A6 and BMW 5-series certainly doesn't need a collection of outmoded styling cues. After the failure of successive retro designs, Jaguar, under the guidance of design director Ian Callum, has found a new look.
The XF ditches both the “shield” grille of the old Mk2 and recent S-type saloons, and the “mouth” grille of the XK. Instead, it uses a new “ovoid” shape, related (albeit faintly) to the grille of the first XJ6.
Its stance is low-nosed and confident, full of latent power, with the grille countersunk into the body in the manner of the original XJ, not merely stuck on.

Ya...but the ironic thing is that the "tone-down" is going to backfire.. This is somethinng I just don't understand; if a hot looking car generates a lot of buzz and excitement, why change it to "broaden" its appeal? It always seems to REDUCE its appeal.... whatever

Saw this page already. I have to see the front end in person, but the rear, sides and interior have me hook, line and sinker. Unlike others on this site, I can see this car's Jaguar-ness. It doesn't need to be retro to have classic cues.

I like it a lot. I think it was a good compromise between concept and production. So far i'm not in love with the gearshift or that satin nickel aluminum look plastic. But I love the layout. I think the woods look great, I like the fact that they kept the blue lighting too. I'd like to see it in a few other colors with a better wheel package though. I think it'll be a hit.

I have a feeling it will look much better in black or navy than in silver or white. Dark colors are usually more flattering.

Well I am a little bit let down, but I still think it looks great, however not what I imagined.
The cars overall look reminds me of a Lexus GS blended nicely with a Bentley Continental. The headlights aren't my favorite, but I love almost everything else. Definitely the best-looking car in its class.

I'd rather have the Buick Lucerne which will give you more value for the money. I'm referring to the Lucerne with the DOHC Cadillac Northstar V-8 . I hope that the next Lucerne with RWD instead of FWD will vave an LSD option for winter traction.

To me it looks like a blend of Aston V8(from rear)and Lexus GS(as a whole).
Didn't lived upto it's hype but not bad either.
Design wise it's on par with GS.

"On par" with the GS? LOL. They took the GS profile, but made it so much sexier. This car doesn't have the impression of being slightly bloated, as the Lexus does. And the XF actually looks AMAZING without side surfacing, while the GS needs more going on with its sides.

The more I see it the more I like it. I am honestly not a fan of the shape of the aft section of the rear window, I don't find it very Jaguar-like and had anticipated a shape similar to that of the XK. I obviously was wrong.
They had better not put that shape on the new XJ- I will be throughly miffed in that case.

The single most obvious thing on the car that says "Jaguar" is the hood. It is a simple modernization of the same on that has been on the XJ since 1968.
In fact, when driving an XJ, if you look across the hood to the fore passenger side, you will see the same form that appears on the C-XF. That is of the two bulges under which are housed the lights at the front, the interior buldge appears to be slightly tucked under the large interior set which defines the edge of the grill.
Both of these are just interpretations of the original inspiration- the muzzle of a growling cat as it bears its teeth.
The interior is similar in form to dashes Jaguar has had before. The elemets that taper before the end of the dash is very historically Jaguar- and its basic form is very similar to some Jaguar dashes- as well as the A8 a bit.

I just said what i felt after looking the Car. It does look like GS more than anything with the rear of the Aston V8 (difference is a just a chrome stripe connecting the two tail lamps). Do u have any problem with that?
Do u really have to knock Lexus wherever possible?
And GS is not bloated. It’s actually A6.

No, I really like the LS460, IS350 and even the GS450h. Lexus is a very good carmaker.
I'm just sick of you saying EVERY new car that comes out looks like a Lexus. E-Class spyshots, XF, new BMWs, etc. When the reality is, Lexus is basically stealing BMW design cues at the moment and refining them.
The side profile is similar to the GS's, I'll give you that. But then you get into a string of look-alikes- the GS's profile apes the 5 Series. There's also the Infiniti M and Acura RL. They all have copied BMW's Hoffmeister kink, even Volvo. The only two that don't use it are, ironically, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
And neither the A6 nor GS are bloated if you get them with nice rims, but I don't like either with small rims. S6 looks amazing.

Well well, reading your comments guys is sometimes so funny. But I agree with a lot of you, the 3/4 view and profile; it kinda look like a GS, which is not bad, I personally think the GS is a beautiful car. The rear is pure Aston Martin, the front; I don't know what to make of it, very "japanese/korean", I don't like the headlamps. The interior, as talked before as quite a bit of Audi influence.
So I'll say it's a bit disapointing because nothing really new and exciting, just a blend of bits and pieces. The concept was so awesome...

Yes the car is a bit more derivative then the concept. The lights are not as sleek and the grill seems a little smaller. The interior has the basic format of the concept. The tail lamps look great.Overall I think it's a great effort from Jaguar and a very attractive car.I think it looks so much nicer then the retro S that it should sell well.

Ill have to agree with some of the members here. It does have a Lexus GS profile. But thats where it ends. The interior is so god dam gorgeous. I like the new push/twist knob gear selector. Gives the Jag a very clean interior especially when its pushed down. Overall im impressed with it. Looks like a winner. I wonder how a 7series, A8, S-Class and LS competitor will be styled. Nice work Jaguar.

It looks exactly like the Volvo S80 from the side profile, and the front does remind me of the Chrysler 300/ Buick Lucerne. I think it works together as a whole though, but I think I can safely say that this had an opportunity to blow everyone else out of the water in terms of design, and it just didn't.

What's nice about this design is that it shows restraint, suprememly lacking in auto design today. The rear end is simple but upscale, and the interior looks the same, which is hard to accomplish with just a few lines. Pity about the overly large roundness in the headlamps. Too trendy. Would have prefered to see a more cat-like squint to the "eye." But otherwise I think this is lovely and elegant.

Fantastic car. The shape is almost the same as the concept, and the car looks low and menacing. Great grill, and the backside is just epic. I want to see the car in detailed pics. Jaguar is going to blow away the boring looking 5,E, and A6, no doubt about that. The interior is futuristic yet suave.

I think we should all wait to see it in person, to be honest. I hated the S-Class, CL, even the LS460 until I saw them in person. This seems to be one of those cars. It may not match the CLS for pure sex appeal, but it's damn close, and it offers much more practicality/comfort to go with the looks.

I was really pulling for Jaguar on this one, but to look back at pictures of the concept car and compare them it's clear—Jag blew it. The sad thing is, there's no reason why they couldn't have carried the more aggressive headlight treatment and larger grill intake over to production. Both maddening and saddening that the Jaguar suits wouldn't allow the design team to make the Jaguar they intended to.

"Engineering limitations are said to have made the C-XF's headlights impossible to bring to production in a cost effective manner, but look for cat-like eyes on the next-generation XJ..."
Oh thank goodness. The funny thing is that I have read the XJ will maintain entirely distinctive styling (which I would prefer) but then I also read that it will be similar to the XF. I honestly don't know what you think about it at this point.

I am really rooting for Jaguar on this one, but I'm having reservations. I loved the concept, but this one seems watered down. I think the back has a Aston Martin look to it and even the side view also. The front view is disappointing. I was expecting a new, exciting Jag. and this is what we get. I wanted Jaguar to take a chance and design a bold, emotional car. I don't think this is it. The more I look at it the more it looks like an european Ford Mondeo. I love the looks of the Mondeo, but not as a Jaguar. My $.02

If they kept the headlights more slim like in the concept (looks like they tried to keep the round headlights too much) and didn't square off the front bumper as much the front would match the back end more. I do like it..just not sold on the front..I think its really those headlights that are just trying to preserve the roundness of current Jag headlights.

OK I spent a while looking at this car and was reserving my comments til I saw it in the flesh, but I have to say that I think, contrary to many of you on here, it looks good. Yes the lights may be bigger than the concepts (Thanks to EU laws so blame them, not Jag)but over all the style I think is a good one. Much of the concept is intact if you compare the two side by side. Of course the taller roof is required or EVERYONE would have bitched it was too low and that it sucked in the rear quarters. I think the interior's simplicity is its trump card over the competition. It looks fairly intuitive with the touch screen and few knobs. Of course I can't wait to see it in the flesh. Jags have always looked so much better in reality than in pictures. My only concern is more of the weight this car has. I hope it goes, for I fear if this cat is slow to react, that may be its downfall. So I have said it. I do like this car and I think it is a good looking machine. I don't see the Buick in this like you all have suggested. I put the two pics side by side and do not see a resemblance. I thought when I first saw it maybe some Hyundai Genesis, but when compared side by side the Genesis then looked more of an Infiniti G37 sedan than the Jag. I think we are used to seeing certain styling ques and immediately think of a brand. From some angles (a tight 3/4s view showing more front) this cat does have a Jag look around the rear roof line and haunches. I think since this is such a different look for Jag is the reason many people do not like it. I mean Jag went through this in the 60's with the XK-E. Sure that car now is a classic. But back then the Jaguar purists hated it, thought it didn't look like a proper Jag, now we can't even imagine Jaguar without it. So time will tell how this Jag pounces on its competition. I give it a thumbs up so far.
