JDM Toyota Corolla gets 280HP V6
Toyota has released a hotted up version of the Japanese domestic market Blade hatch featuring a 3.5L V6 engine with 280hp (206kW) and 345Nm (254lb-ft) of torque. The Blade is sold in Europe as the Auris and in other markets as the Corolla, and it’s expected that these markets will also get the new V6 version, as we reported in an earlier story. To give you an idea of just how much power this is, Volkswagen’s Golf R32 hot hatch only gets a 250hp (184kW) powerplant. Read Article

Typical Toyota. Quality performance for little money. And what do Europeans drive? Boringly styled 50 horsepower shitboxes with zero power. Leave it to Toyota to dominate markets with their creativity and insight. There is a reason I adore this company.

Toyota actually offers a 60 hp car in Europe.
And this thing will cost way too much, the diesel already barely undercuts the GTi, this will costs more than the R32.
And 280hp+V6+FWD?

Nose heavy torque steer.
Give it AWD and I'll be happier (if they can make it handle unlike the last Corolla).

Great point, people will get themselves killed in this POS! FWD was never meant for power, only snow and rain.

Correction. Smart people who buy this car know they're getting a little reliable BMW M3 killing machine. The Corolla is light and powerful. The M3 is heavy and underpowered. End of story.

Don't bet on it CARGUY2! My youngest daughter used to scare the shit out of me accelerating in and out of city traffic with me as the passenger. Not even the taxis could keep up with her.

An answer to the question nobody asked. Now, I will admit that the 3.5 V6 in a Corolla would rock. But just how much torque steer can you honestly handle?

I'd rock it if AWD is avail.

Acura TL has ~300hp, Mazda Speed3 ~270hp... and they are doing fine.

please correct yourself. the tl base is 258 hp, and the type s is 280. the MPS3 is 263 hp.

Please correct yourself supra never back, both cars you mentioned are a piece of non-handeling shit. have driven both and I was totally unimpressed. If I had to pick I'd pick the Mazda. Cornering sucked. Nonhandeling crap.

Just because it isn't RWD doesn't make it a piece of crap. You are an objective asshole, i can say the same about the 3; it has a horribly built and designed interior, with the space of a corolla, i would take the TL any day. At least i can fit people over 12 years of age in the back seat.

Bring it on Toyota. Maybe that will wake up MB and Audi to add some real power to there standard non-amg or non-s cars. If a Corrola has 280hp then there isn't any excuse for a $50,000 Audi A5 to have only 268hp.

We're getting a 170 hp A5 in Europe, we already get 150 hp BMW 3 series.

why?

does it really have a suspension and the structural rigidity to even handle that power?

Good point, I am shure Toyata has.I am impressed by the size of the front brakes, if that is an indication that they are doing there homework it would be safe to say that it has been engeneered to handle the extra power.

David989/LexusKing,

Thanks for the show, but your unoriginal attempts at inciting automotive-related violence aren't working as planned.

It isn't even that original. Why Autospies has had many fictitious Lexus fans over the years, boasting ridiculous claims in the hope of trying to be funny.

Sure, there are those on this website who ACTUALLY think you are delusional Lexus fans, which is sad. Sure, some of your posts are reasonably funny, however they lower the standard of the website.

This website is actually somebody's business, and by playing class clown on all the threads, you are disrespecting the website and those who frequate it.

Try stand-up comedy instead.

What are you? The autospies police or something? Leave me alone. It's not my fault that Lexus is the best. Live with it!

Matthew, your not getting paid for posting, there is nothing serious about this or any other free site to post opinions, so breathe it's good for you. Only person getting paid here is 001 and a couple of cronies. It's a place you go to talk cars and shit. You are wound up way too tight. While I'm at it, why bother arresting david989? Too much work, just shoot the piece of shit!!
