Jaguar New S-Type - Jaguar C-XF - Jaguar New Sport Sedan
Jaguar is preparing a replacement for the S-Type, which will be named the XF and is scheduled for launch this fall.

The C-XF's 114-inch wheelbase is virtually identical to the current S-type's, and the concept is an inch longer overall. But the C-XF is significantly taller than an S-type and wider than an XJ. A supercharged, 420-hp, 4.2-liter V-8 mates to a six-speed manu-matic in the C-XF, but the production XF surely will be offered with a V-6 and Jag's normally aspirated V-8 as well.

Jaguar is about premium luxury to the max. They should not try and value-price anything of theirs, except the X-Type.

The recent spy-photos of the XF taken in San Francisco (Not 'Frisco' right Will?) are very interesting. The photographs really show off the very sleek and cat-like structure of the car, which is rather odd given that some prior pictures look less cat-like. I am not sure if it is the angle of the pictures, but I acutally looked, because I felt the difference significant, to see if they lowered the roof structure. If they indeed did you can't tell immediatly by comparisons of distances on the pictures- I was not very precise. Yet, the pictures do look somewhat different.

It will be interesting to see when it comes out.

Jaguar needs to change its thinking, and work on making competitive cars, not just luxury cars.....the 4.2 is underpowered compared to the competition at 300hp, and its suppose to get inline 6 from the s80 with only 220hp when everything else in the class is offering 250hp-306hp and sixes are more popular in this class why focus on having 3 V8 options its like they put on a blindfold to the competition and than starting working on the cars. t

My primary concern for this vehicle has been the roof line. Today however, I think I can put those fears to rest. Left Lane News has published a photograph of the XF without its rear window camouflage. At first glance it looks as if it will be a Lexus / BMW like kink in the window. However, looking closely and realizing that there is a reflection in the image, you can clearly see that the belt line moves upward and in all likelihood will describe a shape to the XK window shape. Pulling the chrome outline up at the end is particularly brilliant. If it were flat, such as the BMW and Lexus cases, that flat piece becomes the visual anchor relative to which the height of the window is measured. So visually you experience full height of the window. If you pull that visual cue upwards and create a shape similar to the XK window you move the visual anchor into the window itself and in so doing you actually make the widow appear less high. The two methods can have the exact same basic proportions but look exceptionally different.

Anyway, the more I see Ian Callum’s designs the more I really appreciate his mind. He speaks of proportion often. I wonder if he ever uses f? The Greeks had an absolute standard of beauty defined by the Golden ratio I.E. 1: f (phi). Phi is the mathematical designation for the number 1.61803399, which appears WAY more often in nature than pi.

You know, I say these things and then look back at the pictures and think, what the hell was I thinking. I look again and vacillate between opinions- all I can say is that I hope I am right about the end of that back window. Otherwise this car will look a bit too much like a Lexus or BMW.
