Jaguar Planning a Faster XKR?
Just late last week we brought you images of the new Jaguar XKR GT3 race car. It seems has if Jaguar is planning an even faster and higher-performance version of the vehicle so far called the Jaguar XKR-R. The new higher-performance version will top the XKR horsepower of 420 and will produce 500. It seems as if the company is quietly planning on making a come back and hoping to compete once again with Aston Martin. Read Article

Good, I remember the prototype that Jag had of the previous XKR, it had 450 HP and a manual. Now all they need is to develop a V-12, like they had for the XJ coupe, and put the new I-6 in a sports coupe to compete with the Boxster/Cayman (think F Type)

A V12 would add way too much weight for a sports car. That would make sense for the XJ only. Besides, they are working on upgrading the V8 to 5.0L I heard. The new I-6 would be great for a smaller sports coupe. If Ford approves it.

The SL600 has V-12 (biturbo), the M6 a V10, and of course Jags old rival, Ferrari is known for its V12s. Jag used to have V12 powered sports cars. A 5 liter V12 would be nice for the Xj and the Xk. In order to play in the luxury market, Jag has to go to a V12 for its top model.

As you said, IF Ford apporves it. Remember when Jacque Nasser said Jag would be stupid not to build the F-type...he was promptly fired ( I don't know if it was for that statement)

Dunno about Nasser but I do know that Wolfgang was fired because he actually wanted to spend money on the PAG brands. He also didn't like platform sharing. GM spent 5 billion on Cadillac over a 5 year period to get them to where they are today. Wolfgang wanted to spend 6 billion between 4 different brands and he was fired.

Why have brands, if your not going to spend money on them? I didn't know that the previous gen XK and the Aston DB6 shared the same OLD jag coupe (the one from the late 70's to mid 90's) chassis.

Seems like the only one they like to sprinkle money on is Volvo.

It would make sense. The car is jaw-droppingly beautiful, and the XKR already has a great engine. This would just give them an M6 eater- especially because it is bound to weigh about 500lbs less, thanks to aluminum construction.

To some, the XKR is already an M6 beater. Simular handling and speed with better ride and steering. It just depends on what you prefer. More raw power and slightly better handling or a car that gives you about the same thrills while being more comfortable to drive everyday.

I'm thinking of an XKR myself, in a few years, that is. I'm keeping my car for awhile... only 20K miles on it.

I don't need more than 420hp- if I can overtake any car on the highway with 340hp, I would expect 420hp to be ample, thanks! And, I don't want to spend over $100K for a car that's $20K more than the XKR and doesn't look as good (M6). In fact, I don't want to spend over $100K period.

It's between the XKR, 911 Cabrio, and CL550, if I'd be willing to give up the convertible aspect... probably not, but it's in the running.

If Ford had spent the proper money on the S-type and x-type, things could have been much different for the company. Why spend all that money to refurbish a factory for Jaguar if they were going to force them to use an existing Ford platform that can't compete with the 3 series? They even cut back on the advertising shortly after the car was launched.

Exactly. I love the upper-class Jags- XJ and XK. I think they should build those models exclusively, and have low sales projections. This should keep costs down and profits up. S-Type and X-Type are crap.

Jaguar was born to be exclusive.

Well the next S-type could save the company. That's as down market as they should go. The XJ and XK alone won't be enough to be profitable.
