Jaguar XF: 500 hp and diesel in the works
While Jaguar is on the verge of being sold, work on the upcoming Jaguar XF continues for official debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show this September. Until now we’ve been under the impression that the range topping XF variant will be powered by a 4.2 liter V8 supercharged engine producing 420 horsepower. According to AutoCar’s sources, the Jaguar XF is also expected to get a diesel variant as well as a 500 horsepower version.

When the car hits markets in April of 2008, the Jaguar XF will get a 2.7 liter V6 diesel, 3.0 liter V6, 4.2 liter V8 and a supercharged 4.2 liter V8. However, the 4.2 liter V8 supercharged option won’t be the range topper with the XFR badge.

Jaguar will have a performance-oriented XF that will get a larger 5.0 liter V8 engine with a supercharger producing 500 horsepower. That should give the range topping XF the ability to do 0-60 in less than...

I think they are perhaps a little behind on their information. It has been pretty clear for a while, at least on Autospies, that the XFR would receive a 5.0 Liter 500 hp V8.

That same engine is also due to appear in the next XJ. I recently read that the engine will be capable to hurling the new XJ from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph. I would imagine it would be electronically limited to 155, but what do I know? Again as well, I read that the range topper will be around $150,000. I will say though that they used a decimal in place of the comma so I am not so sure it was written in USD despite the fact that it is an American site I believe.

as high as gas prices are, and with the increased displacement and power of 6 cylinders in luxury sedans it seems jaguar is working backwards. I was reading the new xf will have a 6cylinder with only 220hp, whats the point of focusing so much on high hp V8's when the competition has 6cylinder generating at least 270hp-300+ hp with V8 0-60 times. not just that but why would ford give its premium brand less horsepower than ford and lincoln with 250+hp in the V6 engines.....sounds backwards

That is just the thing though, the competition [at least as far as the XJ goes- not the XF] has 12-cylinder engines. I think this 5.0 liter V8 was primarily developed with that in mind, not necessarily the XF and its competitors.

Jaguar has been pretty conscious of gas mileage: the current XJ is the only car in its class that gets around the gas guzzler tax.

The Jaguar XF look really good, I really like it, but I hope they keep most of the concept design.
