Jaguar XF coupe and convertible receive the greenlight

We’ve known for a while that Jaguar plans on expanding on its successful XF range.

Expected early next year is the 500-hp Jaguar XF-R which will make its debut a the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. According to AutoExpress, parent company Tata Motors has confirmed and greenlighted a coupe and a two-door convertible version of the XF as well.

The convertible XF will feature a folding fabric roof along with a slightly shorter wheelbase. The coupe is said to be more aggressive looking yet curvy like the Audi A5.

Okay, so quick question. What will that do to the XK? Unless one is drastically smaller or larger I think they'll step on each others toes.

I'll take a wild guess on this. I would think that the XK replacement would have to morph into the smaller sportscar to compete with the Boxster/Cayman. If this is not done then the you're right they will eat into each others market share. The only exception to this is if they decide to make the XK go completely upscale to take on Aston Martin. Perhaps then they could get away with it. Otherwise it's abad marketing move.

Im surprised they didnt make it into a CLS competitor into an actual coupe, and make it look like the XF concept, that would have been nice, my problem though with the XF is that right now it really outshines the rest of the lineup yet it is Jaguars cheapest car in the US, it has a much better interior, and for the price of the xf supercharged with the same engine you can get in a 80+ thousand dollar car the XJ and Xk make no sense right now, they are outshined by the XF,and a coupe and roadster willonly make this worse for the XF, the new XJ cant come soon enough, and the Xk really needs to be redone

I see people driving XF's all over the place here in Charlotte, NC. Maybe it's just me, but they just don't seem to command the same road presence as the Mercedes and BMWs. Maybe the coupe will change all of that.
