Jaguar’s Stunning New Make or Break Car
Jaguar, along with virtually every other Ford Motor Company division, is up for sale… making this the perfect time for a new-product home run. And it looks like they’ve got it with the all-new 2009 XF - a stunning four-door Jaguar that combines the best elements of a sports and a luxury sedan.

The XF made its world debut at the recent Frankfurt International Motor Show with a non-retro style that reflects the bold new design language that Jaguar will be using into the future.

"As one of the most visually striking, technically sophisticated and driver-oriented sedan cars that Jaguar has ever produced, the XF clearly demonstrates the forward-looking focus that now defines the Jaguar brand," said Wayne Burgess, XF Senior Design Manager. "With its dramatic styling, powerful flowing lines and a distinctive front, the new XF looks like no other Jaguar . Yet it defines the new design language the company will be adopting for all future models."

Besides the "Made in Japan" type front end the rear also looks like a cross between the last Honda Accord and Astin Martin merge. Does not look that bad but a big departure for Jaguar. New Caddy CTS is the new kid on the block.

The new CTS proves that the 'Art & Science' design language can't really be applied to a small sedan. The grille and front fascia is much too busy and ostentatious. The cabin design and driving dynamics, however, more than make up for the exterior.

More like EL34FWD-SummerRadials because that comment was driving on slippery ice and landed yourself in a ditch.

The best thing about the CTS is its exterior. Its design is epic!

No Ford Mondeo is going to save Jaguar before it's sold off to a company in a former British colony.

I really tried to like this car- but I can't. I've been rooting for Jaguar... but if Ian Callum messes up all of their cars like this, they're just going to slide deeper into irrelevance, and eventually, death. That would be a terrible loss for the car industry.

Why, oh why, couldn't this be as sexy as the XK??? They could've made an XK four-door! It doesn't have to be as big as the XJ!

Those who persist in declaring that somehow Jaguar 'messed-up' this effort simply need to get a clue.

Every design detail successfully identifies the vehicle as both modern and forward-thinking, while still paying homage to Jaguar's past efforts, and from an engineering standpoint, Jaguar has long had their 'stuff' together, as both the XJ and XK series are both at the forefront of automotive engineering/manufacturing technologies.

What I suggest, is that many of you 'naysayers' wait until you can actually afford to buy (or at least test drive) a vehicle of this calibre before you 'chime-in.

Which is not to say that you're not entailed to your opinion, it's just that said opinion is largely irrelevant.

"Those who persist in declaring that somehow Jaguar 'messed-up' this effort simply need to get a clue."

Wow, subtle. You seem to love to attack my opinions, while I have stopped doing the same with you.

"Every design detail successfully identifies the vehicle as both modern and forward-thinking, while still paying homage to Jaguar's past efforts, and from an engineering standpoint, Jaguar has long had their 'stuff' together, as both the XJ and XK series are both at the forefront of automotive engineering/manufacturing technologies."

You don't understand something- I love Jaguar. They have the potential to be the best again. But I simply disagree. Yes, it's possible for another person to have a different opinion from you. What you say is not fact.

Obviously, the XK/XJ are both very well-engineered. They have aluminum chassises, although the engines need to be updated. However, the XF has a conventional steel chassis, and the design seems to be contrived on the outside and bland on the inside.

The XF Concept was incredible. I loved it and crossed my fingers in hope that Jaguar's final product would look just like it. Of course, I was wrong. This could have been the car to make Jaguar.

"What I suggest, is that many of you 'naysayers' wait until you can actually afford to buy (or at least test drive) a vehicle of this calibre before you 'chime-in."

In fact, my wife had wanted this car, and I would've bought it for her. But then it came out. We were underwhelmed. We're ending up with an SUV instead- probably an X5 4.8i.

"Which is not to say that you're not entailed to your opinion, it's just that said opinion is largely irrelevant."

And yours isn't? That's all it is, an opinion. This car isn't simply a winner by nature. You should look over your post and revise your thinking.

The XF is fine, but fine is not going to save a company in Jaguars condition. the XF is not as blah as the XJ. I own a SL550 and a 650i and in 06 I did not even consider Jaguar. No folding hardtop convertible, no ventilated seats, only 300 hp w/o resorting to a supercharger. Lexus and BMW get 300 hp out there 6's. Jaguar seems a day late and a dollar short again and again. My last Jaguar was a 99 XJ8 which was competitive at that time, the 07 XJ looks the same and has 300 hp. Out of the 100's of cars in my neghborhood that cost more than $50K, BMW/Mercedes 70%, Lexus 20% and 4 Jaguars that I know of. The two dealers near us are mediocre. In the Monterey Bay area Jaguar is weak. It is going to take a lot more than the XF to make me consider Jaguar.

The o8 XJ Has been tweaked and looks much more aggressive. It has ventilated seats it does zero to sixty in 6.2 seconds with 300 hp because it has the most advanced chassis and lowest weight aluminum architechture in class. way more advanced than the 7 or the sl. get it right dude. also Jaguar is not a volume seller and never should be. I hope that you get what you said. If you want to be like everyone else as it seem you want to be, then a Jaguar is not for you and never will be. Jags have class not crass.

Jagexpert, I haven't seen the updated XJ on the road yet, but IMO the '07 models look a lot better than the '08s. The '07 was this generation XJ's best year. I saw a black one the other day ('07), and wow, it looked so beautiful. I still love that car, and I definitely like it more than the XF.

BTW, why do you have an SL550 AND a 650i? You could say (if the 6 is a coupe) that you have to coupes, or if it's a convertible, two convertibles. But what about a sedan? Or a car with a usable back seat?

The SL is getting old. I'd much rather have the XKR. Sorry.

The typo does not change the message. Let us see, are you the one who wrote "entailed to you opinion". The XF is not going to save Jaguar, only new owners who make big changes to Jaguar management and dealer body are going to have a chance to save Jaguar. Bigger companies than Jaguar have gone broke.

Let's see, the 08 XJ8 has ventilated seats and looks like it is from what decade? The competition has had them over 5 years. You make my point so well! Jaguar is to be applauded for being lighter than the competition but the car looks like nothing special. I wonder if the interior were roomier how much the XJ would weigh? The interior also just is not as roomy as the competion. My biggest complaint about the interior of the XJ is that the seats are too close to the floor in the front and especially in the rear (even in the L). Do you really feel that Jaguar does not want to be a major player in the Luxury segment? Jaguar needs to at least triple sales to not go away. Jaguar has labor problem and I would not be surprised to see Jaguar leave the UK. The name is not going away but how we know it may change.

Well I hate to dissagree again, but the XJ has the most room in class. check the numbers ok? Iyonboy I thin k you are thinking about the prvious model. Go to a dealer and sit in the current car. Its way roomier and sit much higher than the old car. As for a major player Jaguar only needs to sell around 100K cars to be profitable now that they have suceeded in ridding themselves of the rediculous over capacity that Ford thrust on them. Even if Jaguar sells 150K cars it is still a niche player as it should be when you consider that Lexus BMW and Merc sell a million cars a year. As for the 70-80's look that you are implying the XJ will be all new in 24 months. Keeping whats good and reskining the car. i admit if you are not a fan of the retro look them the XF should be on your list until the XJ gets the new skin and interior.

My 650i is a coupe(and at least 300 lbs too heavy) and when we need to carry more than 2 we have an 07 Suburban that gets driven 3K a year. In 06 we looked at the XK and the visibility with the top-up was a deal breaker for my wife. The styling in 06 did not entice her at all. The top is a big deal because in our climate the top is down alot. The top on the SL is quiet when up and gives excellent visibility. The power and economy on the SL is impressive. The 650i is a great car for someone who drives 30K a year. The BMW V-8 seemed so much more flexible and smooth than anything else available at the time in 06. The Jag supercharged V-8 is very fast but not as smooth or as economical as the BMW. I appreciate the Jaguar mystique but Jaguar needs more aggressive powertrains and more aggressive styling to really play in the big leagues. As far as the roominess of the XJ the numbers only tell part of the story, and yes the current XJ is far superior to my 99 XJ, the seats remain too close to the floor, your legs go out too straight and not enough down for ME to be comfortable.

"In 06 we looked at the XK and the visibility with the top-up was a deal breaker for my wife. The styling in 06 did not entice her at all."

This was before the new XK was out, I'm guessing? Because it's sex on wheels- much better than the last-gen.

BTW. You say Jaguar should use more aggressive engines. I agree that they should have something above the 420hp V8- but updating that engine is unnecessary. It's similarly priced to the SL550, but looks better, drives better and is just about as bad for the environment. You even get a parcel behind the front seats!

LOL, if you've ever sat in the back of an XK you'd know what I'm talking about. The new one is actually less-comfortable than the old one back there; it's a similar position to sitting in a bucket.

Face it Jaguar is in real trouble their sales for 2007 is 12,017 units YTD that's 27.2% off last year.
I know its a niche vehicle but they still need to make money.I think the produce a good product with the limited resources they have and the weak dealer network.
