I cant see how a Z06 with ferrari brakes and suspension, a supercharger, a see through window that shows you plastic and interior parts shared with the econo chevy line is considered a remarkable achievement. If you want that look at the Nissan GTR.

Do you really consider the $45k 430 hp 3200 lbs 2 seat coupe base Corvette an 'econo chevy line'? If so then I think your opinion is pretty much void on anything automotive.

I don't see why you would even ask that question as if there is a need to feel guilty about being proud to have an American car built here and is bad ass! Now one else would have thought twice about being proud of their product and its origins. Go Jay!

What's really funny is that I even like the simple interior better than the German stuff as of late. It's like GM hasn't had the time to figure out how to screw it up yet, to hire jerks like Bangle, etc. It's just a good old-fashioned sports car done right. Kudos GM!

ZR1 can have the title of "performance bargain of the decade", but GT-R holds the title for "greatest performance bargain in all of automotive history".

If you would look at the reason, it not so easy to blame one segment.

After a day of intense negotiations it appeared a deal was close on revisions to the bailout bill, first passed by Congress earlier this week. But Republican senators had earlier balked at the plan, instead demanding wage concessions and pension reform.

Those two issues led to the breakdown last night after UAW refused immediate concessions, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said.

The rescue package has become a victim of growing bailout fatigue. In recent months, the U.S. government has thrown hundreds of billions of dollars at banks, insurers and brokerages. Even so, credit markets remain dysfunctional and banks continue to tighten lending standards.

The White House said Bush was calling Republican lawmakers, while Obama told reporters at a news conference in Chicago an industry shutdown would have a "devastating ripple effect" on the already ragged economy."

A growing number of Republicans and Democrats were turning against the House-passed bill — despite increasingly urgent expressions of support from the White House and President-elect Barack Obama for quick action to spare the economy the added pain of a potential automaker collapse.

Supporters had an uphill battle pressing the rescue package on a bailout-fatigued Congress — particularly a measure designed to span the administrations of a lame-duck president and his successor. Forced together by growing economic turmoil, the incoming and outgoing presidents were united in pressing hard for swift approval.

In a separate Marist College poll, 48 percent said they oppose federal loans for the struggling automakers while 41 percent approved.

So again, how can it simply be just the Republicans...

It's sounds simple because it is. You just gotta learn to see comprehend things clearer. All this crap happened on the republicans watch(8yrs is enough time to see sh!t about to happen and do something about it).

As we speak, Bush and his boys sit comfortably waiting not doing a thing while america is hit with the worse economic disastor ever that could bring the whole world down with it. Where is the initiative the GOP showned back during 911? I guess Al qaeda was not involve in destroying america's economy so no need to rush eh? This bailout plan was not a republican idea, they couldn't careless. When those idiot speculators and investors were driving the price of oil sky high, all Bush did was said "Wallstreet got drunk" instead of a crackdown into potential fraud. You're own quote above already answered it all.

Meaning the bill was DOA even before it got there. Those republicans who supported this bill were only trying to cover their own butt by paying lip service. The white house support for this plan was from growing pressure that they could be the administration responsible for destroying an american icon.

One of the main reason for killing this plan was "bailout fatigue", mostly due to the missused of the 700billion bailout money which did not resulted in getting the economy back on track, again, on republican watch.

When Detroit built huge guzzling SUV and other wasteful vehicles, republicans enjoyed the he!! out of those crappy things. They loved it so much that on their way to turning america into a police nation, the secret service made the Escalade fashionable. The famous Hummer was made famous by another republican, I think you know who that governor is. While Gore and many democrats talk green and made Pruis into a yuppy mobil, republicans balked at hybrid and tries to discredit it. Now they all want a piece of hybrid. All I see is bad iniative from republicans, never anything good. Republicans is why the world hates america!! How much more simple can it get?
