Kia moving forward with a pickup truck for the U.S.
Planning a pickup truck has been on Kia’s drawing board since the 2006, when it showed its Mojave Concept at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show. It now appears Kia is close to making the final decision on a pickup truck for sale in the U.S. The vehicle was one of the main subjects at Kia’s dealer meeting in February.

A source familiar with the Korean company’s plans says that the pickup has been approved for production at Kia’s plant in Georgia. The source said that the truck will be based on the new redesigned 2010 Sorento SUV.

Do they really want to do that? I mean, It took Toyota and Nissan a looong time to even get accepted in the american truck market. Even now, with gas prices skyrocketing, they're not doing as well as they'd like to...

The only way they can be successful with a pickup if it's a ecomonically cheap truck.. Like a XL Ranger, or LS S10, reg Tacoma...

If they try anything else, I agree with 07G35J, it would take a LONG time to get accepted..

I agree. It's hard to imagine KIA being profitable without selling 50-60k units, and it's hard to imagine that happening without the vehicle being very cheap.

Get rid of the eff'ing KIA symbol in the front, and you just might have yourself a seller. It's really not a bad looking truck. It could be worse. It could look like a Mitsu Raider.

Its a nice truck, but why front wheel? that makes no sense. If its a front wheel drive truck, they should know its a failure already.

OMG please no! Look at the size of the gaps in the paneling. I could park my car in them. The lamps and front end design is just cheap and completely useles.

Just take the front end of the Sportage or something, and make a truck the size of the Ford Ranger out of it.

Kia was just not meant to make a truck. Kia's are junk throwaway cars that you have to replace every 2 years

Really, FWD? If so, Kia obviously didn't build this for towing, thereby making it pointless.
Very stupid if it is FWD.
