Toyota has recently pulled the wraps off the 2013 RAV4 ahead of the model’s official debut at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. After it was teased and with the model even leaking not too long ago, the 2013 Toyota RAV4 is ending up in our news once again, this time with the Japanese based automaker releasing the very first images with the model which are revealing its lines ahead of the vehicle’s official debut set for the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2013 Toyota RAV4 will go on sale against models like the Ford Kuga (Escape), the Honda CR-V or the Subaru Forester and the vehicle is adopting a more modern design.Check out the LA Auto Show Preview Photo Gallery sponsored by the Fiat Abarth and The Holiday Gift GuideRead Article

I think any change is good the current RAV4 isn't winning anything based on styling.— 91z4me (View Profile)

This is a carbon copy of the Ford Escape. One of the most blatant steals in awhile (excluding what is seen in China). The rear 3/4 view is the same, right down to the angle of the D Pillar and the shape of the rear taillight on the side of the car. I can't believe this.— 280SE (View Profile)

who's copying whom? That up-swooped rear window has been on the Rav fsince 2005.— thetruth01 (View Profile)

@ thetruth01 - Thank you! So many crossovers have copied the up-swooped back window since Rav4 did it FIRST, including the current Ford Escape (which looks just like the current Rav4, tweaked with a bunch of lines and contours). This new 2013 Rav4 looks a lot like the current one, and is not the one copying other cars. — ravgrl916 (View Profile)

And the "upswoop" has been on the Nissan Murano since 2003. So who's copying whom?— 222max (View Profile)

@222max - the back window of the Murano has more of a sharper, smaller "swoop." The 2006-2012 Rav4's back window is bigger, more angular and clearly is an "up-side-down" version of its own 2001-2005 generation models. In my opinion, the windows of the Rav4 have been emulated by more crossovers than the Murano's. Just take a look at the Ford Escape, Jeep Compass, Mitsubishi Outlander, etc.— ravgrl916 (View Profile)

The point is that the "swoop" as we're calling did not originate with the RAV4, which is what was suggested in the thread. And I dare say that the Murano's window has been just as influential as the RAV'S, especially considering you could say that Toyota copied Nissan in this case.— 222max (View Profile)

The "swoop" as you call it originates from the 2002 Corolla Verso. http://www.autoevolution.com/image/toyota-corolla-verso-2002/9656.html— Rectifier (View Profile)

As much as it was clearly time for the RAV4 to have an update, this is just bad. Yes, the profile the twin brother of the Escape. The back-end was taken right from an MDX. And that interior looks like it fell off a 1985 Toyota 4Runner (or something else old and cheap). Who would choose this over the leaders in this segment? — cidflekken (View Profile)

Actually, the current Ford Escape is copying the 2005-2012 generation of Rav4, and the new Rav4 is only taking cues from its current generation. The back end is actually inspired by the current Camry's rear end, which just happens to look a little like the MDX's rear end. I do agree with you, however, on the interior...it's disappointing.— ravgrl916 (View Profile)

ACTUALLY, the "swoop" originated with the 1970 AMC Gremlin. So, all just STFU. The fact remains that, in profile, the Escape and RAV4 are very similar, in addition to a number of other SUVs. — cidflekken (View Profile)
