Volvo’s top executive opened the door to U.S. production of the Swedish brand’s luxury vehicles in remarks before the auto show here Wednesday.

Stefan Jacoby, president and CEO of Volvo Cars, said reducing the cost disadvantage Volvo’s European-made cars and SUVs face in the United States keeps him up at night, and that the company is “working on a solution.”

Chinese production will come first, however. Volvo will reveal details of its Chinese manufacturing plan within the next couple of weeks, Jacoby said.
